Pass Your Motorcycle Test with These Tips

Giancarlo Perlas January 27, 2021

You are excited to experience the thrill of riding a motorcycle like the MV Agusta F3 800 AMG. You have taken the motorcycle written test and have passed it.  However, before you can start your two-wheel adventure and zip along the streets and highways, there is one more thing you need to pass: the road test.

A driving test is required before you can get a motorcycle license. As the term implies, you will be actually driving your bike during the test. Your riding skills and motorcycle knowledge will be tested out during this phase.

To help you pass the test, we have summed up some tips for you to follow:

Review your state’s motorcycle law.

Even if you have pass the motorcycle written driven test, that doesn’t mean you already have to forget everything you’ve learned about road signs, traffic rules, and other motorcycle laws.

These laws and rules will come handy in the actual driving. Your knowledge of the road and the rules will be tested during the actual riding test.

Practice balancing and essential motorcycle skills.

You will be asked to ride in a closed course during the motorcycle test. Hence, you must practice balancing and maneuvering the bike, especially in tight spaces. The goal is to ride without hitting the traffic cones.

Do a safety check before the actual test.

This is not only for safety reasons. This is essential for you to get familiarized with your motorcycle and its parts. During the actual test, your examiner will require you to perform a safety check. Hence, familiarize certain components and practice this ahead.

Wear proper motorcycle gear.

The best way to know what gear and attire to wear is to check your state’s manual. In general, the proper attire includes a full-face helmet, jacket with padding and abrasion resistance, pants, and shoes. Wear these during the road test.

Ride the right motorcycle.

A big bike is not advisable. It is best if you use a motorcycle with smaller displacement because it is easier to handle and maneuver during the closed circuit test. However, if you are used to driving a big bike, then you can use that as well. The key is to ride the motorcycle you are already comfortable with.

Follow safety rules and road signs.

After a closed circuit test, you will be required to ride on the streets. During this test, make sure that you listen closely to the instructions of the examiner. A lot of people fail not because they don’t know the rules, but because they didn’t follow instructions. Wearing a full-face helmet helps you hear the instructions clearer on your earbuds.

When driving, always be wary of your surroundings. Observe and use appropriate signals. Follow traffic rules. Keep to your lane and maintain a safe speed. This is the culmination of everything you’ve learned about motorcycle driving, both the theoretical and practical aspects of it

Lastly, just relax. Do not pressure yourself too much during the test. Keep your cool and drive safe.
