Mercedes-Benz X-Class Gets Wooden Accents Thanks to Pickup Design

Giancarlo Perlas August 4, 2020

Two years ago, Carlex Design’s Pickup Design studio unveiled its Yachting Edition upgrade for the Mercedes-Benz X-Class. Fast-forward today, the company released new updates for its cosmetic kit. This time, it features more faux wood trims than the original.

The new X-Class Yachting Edition keeps its two-tone exterior paint in white and brown. The Maybach-inspired wheels are also retained, and so is the wood-lined rear bed. However, Pickup Design made some changes in the front grille of the auto. Instead of the regular factory grille styling, vertical slats were incorporated behind its single louver grille bar that runs across the three-pointed star logo. The new images of the vehicle show the lack of stepping boards too.

Stepping inside the X-Class reveals a major overhaul in its upholstery. From the previous white and brown theme mirroring the exterior finish, the package introduces a more exclusive cabin-like look with more wooden accents on the dashboard, steering wheel, and floor mats. Meanwhile, the seats, shift knob, handbrake, side panels, and center console are all covered in brown Alcantara. Then, just to provide a contrasting look in its cabin, the seats are clad in black and brown Alcantara with a silver strip running vertically in the middle.

Pickup Design didn’t mention any performance boosts in its package so those who are looking to juice up the output of their X-Class should turn to Brabus or Wetterauer Engineering’s chip tuning.

The pricing of the original Pickup Design Mercedes-Benz X-Class Yachting Edition is €105,000, including the cost of the base Mercedes model it utilizes, so the updated package should be somewhere that mark.
