Next-Gen Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV Spied in Traffic

Giancarlo Perlas July 14, 2020

It’s been five years since the Mercedes-Benz GLC was introduced, and a year since we saw its facelifted model. A new spy video reveals that the three-pointed star marque is working on the next-generation series of the range.

The sport utility vehicle was spotted in traffic. However, it is still hard to make out its features because the prototype is heavily clad in black and white zebra camouflage. The only give away of its identity as the GLC is that it follows the form of the auto’s outgoing model.

There are a couple of noticeable changes in the prototype though. First, it appears to have a longer wheelbase than its predecessor. Second, the roofline of the upcoming model is lower.

Apart from that, the new GLC is expected to follow the design cues of the recently-unveiled Mercedes cars that showcase cleaner bodies with minimal character lines. It will likely have thinner headlamps and narrow, horizontal taillights too.

Furthermore, the GLC is riding on the same platform used by the C-Class cars of Mercedes. Therefore, it will most probably follow the powertrains offered by its sibling, including four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines as well as electrified and mild-hybrid offerings.

The video also provides a peek at the interior of the next GLC but its upholstery is covered in black fabric. Again, judging from the latest Mercedes models, a massive overhaul is anticipated, particularly in the technology of the SUV. Among the new tech will include the latest MBUX infotainment system, updated driver assistance system, and fully-digital instrument cluster.

The possible debut of the next-gen Mercedes-Benz GLC is next year, and it will be out in the market by 2022.
