Mercedes-AMG GT Updated, New Night Edition Unveiled, AMG GT S Axed

Giancarlo Perlas July 28, 2020

After the successful launch of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, the standard GT is also revamping its coupe and roadster lineup with new updates. The range rolls out the Night Edition too.

The primary update in the AMG GT can be found under its hood. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine of the car takes a 54 hp boost to raise its output from 510 hp to 530 hp. The upgrade is still far from the AMG GT R’s 577 hp output but it’s a good thing that their performance gap has been narrowed now. It is possible that the three-pointed star brand is looking to spike up the power of the AMG GT R as well. It’s only a matter of time until the company announces it.

The standard GT retains its look in the new updates but those who are looking for cosmetic changes can go for the Night Edition of the series. As the name says, it makes the body of the car darker, even the chrome parts of the auto. The AMG Exterior Night Package paints the brake calipers and front grille in black. Moreover, the headlamps receive a darker tint also. Then to top it all off, the car is fitted with matte black Y-spoke wheels measuring 19 inches on the front and 20 inches on the rear.

Inside, the Night Edition features the same dark theme in its steering wheel wrapped in Dinamica microfiber. Everything from the spokes to the shift paddles all gets the same treatment. Meanwhile, the upholstery is covered in exclusive Nappa style black leather with diamond stitching.

Among the options of customers in personalizing their AMG GT include the obsidian black metallic, selenite grey metallic, and design graphite grey Magno paint finishes for the exterior. On the other hand, the trim elements inside can be had in carbon fiber or black piano lacquer.

The performance jump of the AMG GT marks the end of the Mercedes-AMG GT S trim as a part of Mercedes’ efforts to streamline its products.
