Graham Rahal’s Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series Is More Powerful Than His Race Car

Giancarlo Perlas October 25, 2019

IndyCar Series driver Graham Rahal’s racecar is very impressive with its 700 horsepower output. That makes us wonder what kind of vehicle he is driving on a day to day basis. Recently, Jay Leno’s Garage revealed to us the answer to this.

Based on the former host of The Tonight Show, Rahal drives a gullwing version of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series, and it is not just the standard variant of it. Famous aftermarket tuner Weistec Engineering brought the car to his garage, and it was nothing short of impressive.

Even to this day when it is no longer in production, the limited SLS AMG Black Series is still imposing with its super sporty design and high-performance that’s why it is still used in motorsport. Aside from its beautiful gullwing doors, Graham’s unit extensively uses carbon fiber in its body making it very light and agile.

After an extensive tinkering by Weistec, the SLS AMG Black Series now produces a whopping 825 hp, which 200 hp more than the fresh-from-the-factory version of the car. That’s all thanks to the tuner’s custom-made intake manifolds, air-to-water intercooler, and bespoke brackets. In addition, they gave it a new supercharger and partnered the modifications with long-tube headers to sweeten the engine sound of the vehicle.

Leno took the tuned SLS AMG Black Series for a spin and he only had good things to say about it. He remarked on its smooth driving features and he went on to say that he actually felt the full brunt of the 825 hp upgrade, unlike the others he had driven that claimed over a thousand horsepower but only seemed like they could only deliver half the hype.
