It’s Official, the Mercedes-Benz EQS EV is Coming

Giancarlo Perlas September 7, 2019

After plenty of speculations, the Mercedes-Benz EQS name has finally been confirmed. The revelation came from Mercedes’ teaser, which was posted through the brand’s official social media channels.

According to the teaser, the electric vehicle will be introduced in its concept form as the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQS. The debut of the concept vehicle will be held at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 10, 2019.

The trailer for the EQS shows us that it will carry an illuminated front grille similar to the older Mercedes-Benz EQ Concept. It also gives us a glimpse of its illuminated running boards on the sides. Besides these, the other hints we have as to what the auto will look like comes from the EQS teaser photos released earlier.

As a recap, the EQS is expected to sit above the EQ range’s hierarchy. It will get features that are at par with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and it will provide us a preview too of what the future holds for the German automaker’s flagship car such as its all-new pop-up door handles and tiny cameras that replace its side mirrors. The product will make use of Mercedes’ dedicated aluminum-based platform for EVs.

The EQS is reportedly equipped with two motors distributed in its front and rear axles. The setup offers an all-wheel-drive for the unit. Meanwhile, the high-end interior of the car is free of buttons and knobs. Instead, it is rigged with touchscreens on the side armrests and central console. Furthermore, the EV will likely offer a semi-automotive driving system.
