Mild-Hybrid Mercedes-Benz GLE 580 Makes Its Debut

Giancarlo Perlas May 23, 2019

Mercedes-Benz just unveiled the most powerful variant of the GLE sport utility vehicle range in the form of the Mercedes-Benz GLE 580. Well, that’s until the Mercedes-AMG GLE63 arrives, this will sit on top of the GLE class.

There are no significant changes in the GLE 580 in terms of design compared to its lower-trim units except its badges that boasts its mild-hybrid setup composed of a V8 engine and EQ Boost.

The interior also reflects the standard amenities of the other GLEs, including the twin 12.3-inch screens on its instrument cluster and infotainment system. The tech is partnered with the MBUX intelligent multimedia system that supports voice commands.

For those who wish to make their GLE 580 stand out even more, they can go for the optional AMG Line package and a set of 22-inch wheels. The infotainment system can be further amped up too with the MBUX Assistant that features gesture controls.

The icing on the cake comes in the hybrid powertrain of the GLE 580. Powering the mill is a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine with 483 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Adding more power into it briefly from the get-go is the EQ Boost made up of an integrated starter-generator (ISG). The mild-hybrid configuration puts an extra 21 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque during acceleration. With that, the GLE 580 can go from 0-60 mph in only four seconds.

The Mercedes-Benz GLE 580 will be available in late 2019. The SUV will start at $76,800.
