New Mercedes-Benz GLB Concept Vehicle Teased

Giancarlo Perlas April 11, 2019

Mercedes is hell-bent at expanding its small vehicle lineup, which calls for it developing and manufacturing a new compact car almost every month. Today, we get to be teased by a new Concept GLB, an electric prototype of which was introduced earlier this week.

Mercedes is seen testing a different version of the crossover. The Concept GLB is scheduled to make an appearance at the Auto Shanghai 2019 in China.

A new teaser from the German automaker showed the Concept GLB in a Jurassic Park-like movie trailer, showing off a few of its metal parts. The boxy crossover is closely related to the GLK. In the video, it revved its engine and flashed its headlights for the camera. Quite clearly, we can see that it has a roof-mounted LED light bar but don’t expect that to be in the production version, which is a shame.

While hearing the engine roaring like a menacing machine will make us think the Concept GLB will come with a massive V8 engine, this is not going to be the case for this boxy crossover. Instead, we expect the GLB to come out with a top-ranging four-cylinder 2.0-liter unit. We can base its power output on the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 with its 302 horsepower, which we recently spotted testing. If there will be a GLB 45, it could be fitted with an engine that generates 383 horsepower and 416 horsepower just like the upcoming A45 and A45 S hot hatch.

If you want to know more about the Concept GLB, you can come to see it when it premieres on April 16 at the Auto Shanghai. The production model will likely be available for a late 2019 or early 2020 release.
