Mercedes-Benz G-Class Defies Gravity

Giancarlo Perlas March 3, 2019

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is a heavy vehicle but its is a very agile machinery. Not only that can it conquer rough terrains, but it can also scale steep areas. Recently, Mercedes released a video boasting yet again its iconic sport utility vehicle’s capability to achieve incredible feats.

The new promotional video of Mercedes for the G-Class is titled “Mercedes-Benz G-Class (2019): Conquering the Punta Negra Dam”, and it falls under the “Stronger than Gravity” campaign of the brand for the product’s 40th anniversary. The clip shows the auto scaling the steep walls of the Punta Negra dam in the Argentinian Andes. From there, we can see that the slope of the wall is about 45 degrees but the SUV seemed to have no trouble at all keeping its traction as it cruised the surface horizontally.

To prove that the video of the G-Class was a real stunt and not a computer simulation or simply a visual trick, Mercedes will be releasing in YouTube on March 8 some additional clips detailing the background of the video. It gives a behind the scenes look at how the stunt was made too. In addition, there will be four short videos on the Instagram Stories of the brand titled “Arrival”, “Construction”, “Stunt” and “Interviews” that showcase the different stages of the stunt.

According to Daimler, the aim of the “Stronger than Gravity” campaign is to “sharpen the profile of the G-Class among the key target groups (of customers and fans): powerful, self-assured and superior”. It immerses customers and fans alike by putting the SUV in extreme environments, which demonstrates why the vehicle has been fascinating to people since 1979.
