Mercedes-AMG GT Receives a Facelift For 2020 Model Year

Giancarlo Perlas November 6, 2018

The Mercedes-AMG GT is receiving a facelift. A new spy video of the car while it was undergoing testing confirms just that.

The AMG GT was introduced as a 2016 model, but since then, its styling has remained the same. The only major change we saw on its body was the revision of its grille to reflect the Panamericana design, which is now a standard for most AMG units.

The new video from walkoART shows the sports car with subtle updates though. These include changes on the lighting and rear fascia only. From the looks of it, the auto is getting the square-shaped, quad-exhaust tips. On the other hand, the bumper is most likely getting some tweaks to offer better housing for the upgrade.

Everything else appears the same as the current model of the vehicle because Mercedes probably didn’t want to mess with its already appealing body lines and sporty elements. The interior is a completely different story though because it might feature a fully-digital instrument cluster and larger infotainment display.

Meanwhile, there’s no news yet about the possible powertrain options of the facelifted AMG GT. Considering that it just underwent changes in the engine department, we are not expecting major upgrades there. However, we are not completely ruling out the likelihood of AMG squeezing more output from the car’s 4.0-liter biturbo V8.

The increase in the power of the V8 engine might be a way for the company to widen the selection of the range. There are rumors that in between the base and range-topping trims of the AMG GT will be a new six-cylinder unit with a mild-hybrid setup.

The facelifted AMG GT is expected to be unveiled in 2019 as a 2020 model year car.
