Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series Confirmed by Tobias Moers

Giancarlo Perlas November 30, 2018

The Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro was just revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The car is a more powerful version of the AMG GT R with a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine beneath its hood. It’s capable of delivering 577 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque between 1,900 rpm and 5,500 rpm. The car is so fast that it finished a lap on the Nurburgring track in just 7:04.662.

There were rumors earlier that a Black Series version of the AMG GT R is in the works. These were further fueled by spy shots showing a more powerful-looking variant of the AMG GT R. Fast-forward to the LA Auto Show, it has become clear that what we saw previously was the AMG GT R Pro.

With the introduction of the AMG GT R Pro, some were left to believe that the AMG GT R Black Series will no longer come. However, AMG boss Tobias Moers confirmed that there’s more in line within the AMG GT range. In fact, he answered on a positive note with the word “Yep” when he was asked about a Black Series version of the car.

Moers explained that the AMG GT R Pro is not yet the new Black Series. He said that it is merely a track-focused type of the AMG GT R, and he cleared out that the AMG GT R Pro has always been a part of their program.

Although the information about the AMG GT R Black Series is still scarce, it was already hinted that it might arrive in 2020 during another interview with Moers earlier this year.
