Mercedes-Benz GLB Spied Towing a Trailer
Giancarlo Perlas October 19, 2018The Mercedes-Benz GLB was once again spied on the road. The new spy video shows a fleet of the vehicle with trailers in tow.
Except for the trailer, the GLB here shows no significant updates compared to the old sightings of the sport utility vehicle. It remains heavily covered in a black and white wrap. Even the windows along the C-pillars are hidden.
What we know so far is that the GLB will be using the next-generation Modular Front-Drive Architecture, which is also referred to as the MFA2. It should be noted that both the A-Class and B-Class ride on the same platform too.
The mind-boggling question in the video though is the thing about the trailers. Based on what we have seen in the past from other automakers, the trailers are likely used to put extra weight to the autos. These are to assess the towing capabilities of the units. Likewise, these are used to evaluate how much stress a heavy tow brings to the mechanical components of the vehicles.
There is a Volkswagen Tiguan in the video as well, which is pulling the same type of trailer found in the GLB prototypes. The unit from the rival automaker could be used by Mercedes for benchmarking purposes.
The GLB will probably be assembled in Mexico. Therefore, it might be offered in the US. The other places where it will be made are in Europe and China for Mercedes’ customers in the respective regions.
Besides the Tiguan, the GLB is geared to go head-to-head against the Jeep Renegade, BMW X2 and Volvo XC40.
