Mercedes-Benz SA and Audi SA Troll Each Other in Twitter

Giancarlo Perlas May 19, 2018

Audi South Africa and Mercedes-Benz SA recently engaged in a Twitter troll war over the image here.

Now, what’s wrong with this seemingly innocent picture? It shows a fleet of Mercedes vehicles and an Audi Q7 mounted with a camera equipment. It appears that the Audi is filming the autos of the three-pointed star brand.

Audi fired the first shot via Twitter saying, “Spotted! @MercedesBenz_SA shooting their next TV commercial…using an Audi Q7. Looks like our friends really do believe in the #BestOrNothing.”

The Tweet backfired when several people came to Mercedes’ defense. Some said that Mercedes should get back at Audi by telling “actors are better looking than directors.”

Other clever comebacks pointed out that Audis are Mercedes’ workhorse, and Audi is playing slave to Mercedes. Then, one posted, “In this advert, the media company was just looking for a cheap car to carry the cameras.”

Finally, Mercedes-Benz SA nailed Audi a day later by replying, “Nice try @AudiSouthAfrica, but there’s a reason we’re always the main attraction. #TheBestOrNothing.” The response came with a video previewing the Mercedes-AMG GLC63 4MATIC high-performance SUV cruising the highway at full speed.

That really escalated quickly, but the fire later got doused fast by the witty guys at Mercedes-Benz SA.
