A disastrous start at the 2016 German Grand Prix cost Nico Rosberg three places right away. Then off went Lewis Hamilton to his sixth win in seven races.

Rosberg actually managed to fight back into a battle for P2. Halfway through, however, he drove Red Bull’s Max Verstappen off the track, a maneouver for which the stewards slapped Rosberg a five-second penalty. The German wasn’t too thrilled at that, with some very tough remarks at the end of the race.

“Without the penalty I was in front of the Red Bulls; with the penalty I couldn’t challenge them.” Of course, maybe Rosberg should remember not to run people off the track next time to avoid penalties. And maybe capitalize on pole position more.

The win means Hamilton creates more separation from Rosberg. This is after finally taking the lead in the standings after winning the previous race. It was a fairly smooth win for Hamilton. The Brit is now up 19 points after being down by 43 at one point in the season.

“My engineers did a fantastic job. The balance was amazing. It was just about keeping it cool and looking after the engine,” said Hamilton, who says he will go into the long mid-season break to relax and spent time with his family and friends.

Two Red Bull drivers joined Hamilton at the podium at the German Grand Prix. Daniel Ricciardo went second, followed by Verstappen. With that great finish, Red Bull now moves ahead of Ferrari in the constructors’ championship race. Oh, and it looks like Ferrari just keeps getting worse, with its two drivers finishing a nondescript fifth and sixth in the race. This is following the departure of technical director James Allison.

Meanwhile, Rosberg remains optimistic despite losing all momentum to Hamilton. “19 points is not tough,” he said, but quickly added that it might take some time before he gets over a GP that went ‘completely wrong’.
