This 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300 SE is Built for the Desert
Giancarlo Perlas November 8, 2015This is probably one of the coolest 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300 SE (W126) out there. The car was transformed from its elegant classic look into a sporty off-roader to suit even the rough terrains of the desert.
The car is presently featured in the Instagram photos of Saudi Retro Cars 4Sale. According to the Bring A Trailer website, the auto is in Sharjah, UAE with a price tag of 45,000 AED or approximately $12,250.
Little information is provided by the seller about the history or the specs of the customized 300 SE. The car is described as a Japanese import redesigned for off-road conditions in the desert. It appears to be in an excellent condition with 175,503 km in its odometer and its interior retaining its retro look.
If it weren’t for the add-ons, the classic sedan could easily pass as in its stock state. The specialist who worked on the car seems to have done a very good job in bringing the coolness level of the auto a couple of notches up though.
The 300 SE’s off-road capabilities is evident in its high ground clearance, thanks to its lifted suspensions. Then it sports monochrome wheels from AMG wrapped in huge and thick rubber tires for improved traction. Yellow rally lights are also fitted to better illuminate the pitch-black desert outside the confines of the asphalt jungle.
Under the hood of the custom 300 SE is a straight-six M103 3.0-liter engine. It produces up to 188 hp. The output may not be mind-blowing on today’s standards, but it is enough to make your desert driving experience very enjoyable at a decent pace.
