This coming Sunday at 7 p.m. ET/PT in the TV show “60 Minutes,” CBS News will be focusing on the Mercedes-Benz S500 Intelligent Drive. The main focus of the program will be the self-driving capabilities of the car.

The show’s correspondent Bill Whitaker will be experiencing first-hand how it’s like to be a passenger of the most advanced car of Mercedes, which is equipped with self-driving features. He will be joined by computer analyst Ralf Herrtwich, who will be sitting at the driver’s seat of the car to demonstrate its key technological features.

The show will offer a glimpse of how the car safely maintains its lane on the road, how it reacts to obstacles, and more, including how it follows other traffic conditions such as the legal speed limit without the intervention of the driver. Whitaker will also be consulting the automotive regulators of the country to discuss their views on self-driving cars.

You can check out the preview of the show in the video below:

About the S500 Intelligent Drive

As a recap, the hi-tech S-Class sedan houses a 4.7-liter turbocharged engine capable of giving off an output of 335 kW at 5250 rpm and 700 Nm of torque at 1800 rpm, based on the figures provided by Caradvice. The power is biased to the rear wheels and distributed through a seven-speed automatic G-TRONIC transmission gearbox.

The S500 Intelligent Drive has advanced navigational features that allow it to recognize traffic conditions, traffic lights, and obstructions along the way, then it reacts to them accordingly. More of these will be tackled in “60 Minutes” this Sunday, so stay tuned.
