The new Mercedes-Benz G500 being tested off-road.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is definitely one of the most enduring lineup in the three-pointed star brand. For decades, it has never failed to amaze everyone despite having only subtle changes in its appearance. The cabriolet and the 6×6 types are, of course, exceptions to this statement.

The amazing changes involving the auto usually happens deep inside it, or under its hood. Recently, the YouTube channel of YouCar showed what the 2016 Mercedes-Benz G500 could do off-road.

The iconic SUV can be seen cruising the dirt road with ease even through uneven terrains, rocky surfaces, and very steep slopes. An under-body shot even displays the way the axles adopt to the kind of ground it traverses.

About the Mercedes G500

The revamped G-Class range now offers up to 16 percent more power, but its carbon dioxide emission had been reduced up to 17 percent. For the standard G500, like in the video above, the power of its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine has been raised to 422 hp with 610 Nm of torque. This allows it to accelerate from zero to 100 kmph in only 5.9 seconds.

A 4×4 version of the G500 will also be offered, which will take over the void left behind by the 6×6 when its production ended. This is equipped with the same engine found in the standard G500. Its sprint from zero to 100 kmph is at 7.4 seconds, but its effectiveness in conquering harsh terrains is improved significantly.
