Nico Rosberg may not have been able to put up a great fight in Abu Dhabi in the 2014 season-ender race due to mechanical issues, but he surely gained the admiration of a lot of people in the way he handled the last fight, particularly Dr. Dieter Zetsche.

According to Germany’s Sport Bild, the Daimler boss praised the success of the Mercedes Formula One team in an internal Christmas letter to employees. He commended the amazing performance of Mercedes-AMG Petronas, which led to its series of back-to-back wins and Constructors’ Championship. He expressed his pleasure as well with the triumph of the 2014 World Champion, Lewis Hamilton.

However, Dr. Zetsche was specifically impressed with the attitude displayed by Rosberg, noting how he was called to the pits to retire his failing car in Abu Dhabi but still persisted to cross the finish line. The Daimler CEO said the trait shown by the German racer perfectly reflected the Mercedes spirit.

Dr. Zetsche explained that it was not just about reaching the chequered flag. Instead, it was a matter of principle. It was about not giving up.

The big boss further stated that the attitude of Rosberg mirrored the unwavering efforts of their colleagues that led them to their successful run in the sport.

Rosberg Promised a Stronger Run in 2015

Rosberg admitted that he will face a great challenge once again when he faces his teammate in the next season. He mentioned too that competition from other teams, especially Williams, will be something to watch out for. However, he vowed with confidence that he will be stronger in 2015.
