There have been speculations in the past that Daimler was looking to pursue the expansion of its vehicle range by adding a motorcycle division. This was fueled up when the German multinational automotive corporation joined in the bid to own Ducati two years ago.

Unluckily, the famous motorcycle brand landed in the ownership of Volkswagen, a rival of Daimler. The brand was put under the Lamborghini development division of VW. This left Daimler as the only German automaker without a motorcycle division.

Fast-forward today, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz is currently in a bid to secure the ownership of the Italian motorcycle-maker MV Agusta according to an MBWorld blog. The report said that the owners of MV Agusta are looking to sell around 30 percent of the company’s stake and Daimler was quick to show its intention to buy it.

If the sale pushes through, the ailing motorcycle company would be able to gain momentum in the market once more. It should be noted that it has been in serious financial predicament over the past decade. The brand has changed hands around five times during that period.

Under Daimler’s wing, MV would be able to take advantage the German marque’s wide network, outstanding marketing, and enjoy technology-sharing with them. On the other hand, Daimler could effectively expand its vehicle range with a motorcycle division and significantly increase its profits if its people would be able to exploit the potentials of the motorcycle brand effectively.

Some market experts advise against the move though. They said that the instability of the motorcycle brand’s performance over the years might drag Daimler down. This remains to be seen though if the sale indeed pushes through.
