Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg have been nothing short of impressive during the first four races of the season. So far, Rosberg is leading the overall Formula One scorecards with 79 points and Hamilton is trailing closely with only a four-point deficit from his teammate. The closest among Mercedes’ rivals to its drivers is Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso with 41 points, which is 34 points lagging behind Hamilton.

Despite their superiority over the previous races, the team’s boss Toto Wolff and Paddy Lowe warned the Mercedes drivers not to take it easy yet. Quoting Wolff’s statement in a BBC Sport interview, he said, “Our aim must be to increase the advantage we enjoyed at the last race.” Then he added, “Our rivals are relentless in their efforts to close the gap.”

In the same interview Paddy Lowe advised, “It is up to us to rise to the challenge, to take that relentless mentality to an even greater extent than those around us.” He further said, “If we are to build a sustained level of success in this sport, any small advantage must be seen as a platform upon which to build a bigger advantage.”

Andrew Benson, BBC’s Chief F1 Writer, pointed out that the next race in Spain might run in favor of the Mercedes’ competitors. He explained it might be the place where Red Bull’s better aerodynamics will definitely come in handy. Also, Alonso of Ferrari seems to be very familiar with the twist and turns of the track in Barcelona where he won last year. The Spanish driver is clearly the favorite to win the next contest too.

Hamilton expressed his confidence and drive to win the next one in Spain though. He promised to deliver another great performance in the race and showed his determination to win in Barcelona where he never won a race yet.
