We have featured an article here before about Daimler refusing to adopt the R-1234yf refrigerant for their new cars for 2013 which was mandated by the European Union.

According to the UK-based news portal called Daily Mail, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz still refuses to install the new air conditioning coolant. The company insists that the tendency of the car engine to catch fire is high when the chemicals present in the coolant and air conditioning compressor oil mixes with the engine. Not to mention that it also releases a toxic substance with highly corrosive effects.

In over half of the tests that the company conducted, a significant fire happened. So, they are proposing for a carbon dioxide-based alternative instead which has a lower emission level and definitely safe for the people in the car.

The protest of Daimler is joined by Audi and Volkswagen.
