Smart fortwo e-drive now in Production

Clarissa June 12, 2012

In Hambach, France the smart fortwo e-drives are starting to roll.

Because lots of people are now into the environment and taking care of it, Daimler considered it important to create a car that will cater to these individuals, thus the launch of the smart fortwo electronic drive. The brand also invested €200 million on the plant to ensure that high-quality fortwos will be produced at a faster rate.

Dr. Annette Winkler said, “The new smart electric drive and the expansion of the Hambach plant are two important milestones for the future of smart”, she added, “With the new smart electric drive we are further expanding our leading position in urban mobility and making fully electric driving accessible to everyone. For this – and for the successor generation to the current smart – we are making significant investments in the Hambach site. And I am convinced that this is money extremely well invested.”

The car is not to be underestimated because it accelerates at 0 to 60 km/h in 4.8 seconds and has a maximum speed of 125 km/h. It can travel 145 kilometers in city traffic because of its 17.6 kwh battery without producing local emissions too. At a price of €23,680 for coupe and € 26,770 for cabrio, it is not a bad investment.
