Mercedes-Benz to release C-Class convertible – the CLR

Muamer Hodzic September 12, 2008

Autobild is reporting that Mercedes-Benz is working on releasing a C-Class convertible, named the CLR, in early 2010 with a brand-new 4 cylinder engine. The entirely new convertible won’t be competing against the 3 series nor the A5, but will be positioned below them, just enough to leave room for the CLK. The price of the CLR will be somewhere around 35,000 euro. To keep the cost low, the undercarriage, axles, drive-train, front end, and both bumpers will be kept from the four door model.

If the price is right and Mercedes can really market this car they way it has planned, then there is no reason why the CLR should not succeed. If we look at the competition, the CLR will fit directly between the 1 and 3-series as well as the A3 and A5 convertible, making it the perfect choice for those looking for something in between those vehicles.
