Muamer Hodzic June 6, 2008

The smart fortwo continues to do extremely well after slightly more than a year on the market: the two-seater set a new record in May 2008 with sales of 13,000 units (May 2007: 12,200), an increase of 6%. Year-to-date sales of the small flitzer were up 73% compared to the same time last year. Sales in the US increased 13.8% for the month of May and 11.3% for YTD.

  1. No wonder the Smart fortwo does so well, only weeks after the US launch all 2008 models were seemingly pre-sold. I am amazed that a lot of Americans have found a new love in the smaller, gas-saving cars, but then again when it costs you over $100 to fill up a gas guzzler a lot of people rethink. The main concern of safety by US drivers, I believe has been well addressed by the designers of the Smart fortwo with its extremely stiff and robust cage and some of the crash tests shown on the web must have done their fair share of winning safety conscious consumers over. The Smart must be one of the very few cars on the US market that is actually sold with air-conditioning as an option.
