dc 597x397 F1 Driver Coulthard Now AMG UK Ambassador

As if his ties to Mercedes and McLaren weren’t enough, retired F1 driver David Coulthard has been tapped by AMG as its ambassador in the UK. The popular driver, who helped form the Red Bull Formula 1 team also continues to work for Mercedes’ racing efforts as a driver of an AMG C-Class in the DTM series.

As brand ambassador, Coulthard will be present at public relations events for Mercedes-AMG, which won’t be a foreign arena for him, as he also moonlights as an F1 commentator for the BBC. But more than being just for show, Coulthard is reportedly being tapped to help tune AMG’s cars in the handling department. Having Coulthard test drive cars to work their best in England’s unique mix of roads will be well suited to the UK native. As well, his experience of winning more than a dozen Grands Prix will also surely help the burly muscle cars from AMG tackle England’s roads.

After working with the E-Class, Brabus worked next on the S-Class model and took it to a different level of beauty.

The tuner gave the AMG a more sport appearance with the custom BRABUS body components that are made in OEM quality from Pur-R-Rim. They are offering painting options for aerodynamic enhancement kit as well, glossy titanium finish and a painted body color. Aside for that, the kit is equipped with an improved front and rear spoiler and diffuser that all gave the car a smoother ride especially in high speed.

Meanwhile, the center diffuser now had a reflector. They also put the stainless steel BRABUS flap control exhaust system that features a variable exhaust note that can be manipulated from the steering wheel and tailpipes coated with cast-aluminum ceramics. Adding to its beauty is the interior made from the BRABUS upholstery shop. It was dressed with leather and Alcantara and can be adapted to suit the customer’s preference. The buyer also have a choice between exotic wood or carbon fiber trimmings.

The engine has been tuned by the company as well, giving it 6.3L V8 fast revving and 5.5L V8 biturbo engine which made the BRABUS’ take on the S-Class a perfect tune in terms of beauty and performance.

DIY: Mercedes-Benz CLS500 with an E55 AMG Engine Modifications

There are some bold Mercedes-Benz owners out there, but this one takes the cake for the most wild DIY ever. And to make matters even more outrageous, the owner (Brent Khelawan) decided to super-tune a 2006 CLS500. We mean, the CLS is already great to begin with. The moment it was released, Mercedes-Benz fans and owners alike were caught off guard. The CLS totally disarmed even the keenest of critics with its sheer majestic beauty, coupled with awesome power and state-of-the-art automotive technology. Of course, you would not expect anything less from the company that built it. But it seems Brent wasn’t satisfied with his ride being in stock form, so he decided to take a few things out and put some cool stuff in.

Perhaps the wildest item in the list of outrageous modifications is the motor swap—a supercharged AMG 5.5-liter M113K engine replacing the stock CLS powerplant. This engine came from a 2005 model E55, so you could imagine what great lengths Brent went through in order to make this thing work with his CLS. Of course, big names in the auto industry were all doubtful that Brent would be able to pull it off. But he did, and so he gives credit to a couple of friends, Rudy Compart of Accelerated Industries and Jake of Herb Gordon Mercedes, for helping him piece things together seamlessly.

Take note folks, this is a show car that sees competition with other Euros mostly on the east coast. Motor Trend even made a deal with Brent to sponsor his car’s appearance at the Baltimore Auto Show. So yes, this car is smoking.

Check out the complete build over at MBWorld and the mod list after the break. Prepare to envy. Hat tip to Brent for sharing his awesome ride with us!

There are so many aftermarket designers that create specilized bodykits and modification that a normal person can’t even keep up. We have written about a couple them already and here’s another – Piecha Design. They use the R171 Final Performance RS edition name that is focused on the exterior, interior and engine of the Mercedes-Benz SLK.

The “final edition series” kit is suitable for those that have not been face-lifted and the face-lifted models and the AMG. The package includes front apron with LED daytime running lights, front lid aluminum aerowings, special wind deflector, side-skirts with air intakes, rear bumper cum diffuser and a rear spoiler lip – all for the car’s exterior.

The entire engine performance that sets into the vehicle immediately is courtesy of the legendary PIECHA power converter of the “Final Performance RS Edition”. The exact specification of the output, however, was not indicated by the tuner.

A beautiful feature is of course the Piecha dp2 Phantom rims with 19-inch wheels with 225/35 tires for the front, and, 20-inch wheels with 265/25 tires on the rear – (Would this not require two sets of spare tires?). Modification for the interior offers only a black Nappa leather finish with red seams.
