Mercedes has released a video of their new M152 powerplant, which is a naturally-aspirated V8. Based on the twin-turbocharged M157 with which it shares the same displacement, the M152 produces 416 horsepower and a torque figure just shy of 400 pounds-foot. This is the very engine that is in the newly introduced 2012 SLK 55 AMG. One notable feature of this engine is its non-V8 fuel consumption characteristics. Daimler has proudly announced that Mercedes’ sporty roadster, the SLK, has received an ISO 14062-compliant Environmental Certificate. This document shows that the new SLK’s life cycle produces 20% less carbon dioxide emissions compared to the model it replaces. The life cycle comprises vehicle production, operation over 200,000 kilometers and material recovery when the car is at the end of its life. In terms of energy balance, the new car is 18% more efficient, which translates to 4,100 liters of fuel saved over the operational span of the car. With Mercedes’ release of the 3rd gen Type R172 SLK, Piecha Design has shown off its body kit for the 2012 Mercedes SLK.
