F1: Hamilton holds off Vettel to win Canadian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton prevailed for the second straight race, taking a relatively hard-fought victory at the 2016 Canadian Grand Prix after fending off the vastly improved Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel. Vettel took the lead with a great start to the race from P3. He went past the two Mercedes, who had a bit of contact exiting turn 1, with Nico Rosberg forced to go to the grass and Hamilton aggressively defending the inside. Hamilton said he thought the start would be ‘a breeze’ after a perfect practice start. “But when it came around for real it felt like I was going nowhere, so I need to figure out what happened there,” Hamilton said. “I… Continue Reading »

Can Nico Rosberg Still Win the 2015 Championship?

All is not yet lost for Nico Rosberg. Mathematically, he could still win the drivers’ title. But with other considerations involved, his chances are quite slim. Toto Wolff advised the German driver to “switch on to 2016 mode and bounce back next year” during his interview with Motorsport website. Currently, Rosberg has 229 points under his record in Formula One Drivers’ Standings. That’s 73 points behind the F1 Drivers’ Championship leader and his teammate Lewis Hamilton’s accumulated 302 points so far. With only four races remaining and the double scoring in play, he could still snatch an upset for the championship. However, that would mean Hamilton should score very poorly… Continue Reading »

Mercedes Makes a Disastrous Performance at F1 Singapore GP

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel wins the Formula One Singapore Grand Prix. This is his 42nd career victory, which now puts him in the third position in the list of F1 racers with the most wins. He overtakes Ayrton Senna’s 41 career wins, and he is merely nine wins away from equaling the record held by Alain Prost. The current world champion didn’t fare well in the event. Mercedes-AMG Petronas driver Lewis Hamilton had to retire somewhere in Lap 33 after struggling with his car. Sources say he had an issue with the pedal. On the other hand, Nico Rosberg failed to maximize the opportunity offered by the early exit of the F1 Drivers Standing leader… Continue Reading »

F1: Mercedes struggles in Singapore GP qualifying

The Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team finds itself in unfamiliar territory after Ferrari and Red Bull made their marks in qualifying for the 2015 Singapore Grand Prix held in the city-state’s Marina Bay Street Circuit. Lewis Hamilton, who had gotten used to getting pole positions this year, had to settle for P5 when the night race starts tomorrow. P6 went to Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg. Taking pole this time out is Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. Joining him on the front row is Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull Racing. Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen qualified at P3 while the other Red Bull car driven by Daniil Kvyat went fourth. The difference between Kvyat’s and Hamilton’s… Continue Reading »

F1: Mercedes secures front-row start at Chinese GP

Lewis Hamilton did not waste any time trying to get back into the saddle after missing his chance at the last race. The defending F1 champ took pole position after a solid, tight qualifying run at the 2015 Chinese Grand Prix, while teammate Nico Rosberg took P2 for another Mercedes front-row start. Hamilton clinched his 41st career pole position by registering a lap time that was a mere 0.4 seconds better than that of Rosberg. The British driver attributed his success at the Shanghai International Circuit to the layout suiting his driving style and him enjoying driving on this particular track. He also credited fan support present on the track…. Continue Reading »

F1: Malaysian GP – Mercedes finishes 2, 3 as Vettel grabs race win

It’s official: we have a competition in our hands for the 2015 Formula One season. Sebastian Vettel grabbed the victory at the 2015 Malaysian Grand Prix ahead of the two Mercedes cars, showing that there’s a lot of work to be done by the defending constructors champion if it wants to fend off Ferrari this year. Lewis Hamilton failed to convert a pole position into a race victory for the first time in the last eight poles, but still finished second while Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg took the third and final spot on the podium at the Sepang Circuit. Hamilton finished a whopping 8.57 seconds behind the Ferrari, though. There was… Continue Reading »

F1: Malaysian GP qualifying – Mercedes’ Hamilton takes pole; Rosberg in P3

Don’t look now, but Ferrari’s trying to spoil the party. Lewis Hamilton will start the Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday in pole position, after edging out Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg took P3 on the starting grid after a rainy qualifying session. The three Q3 times for the top 3 qualifiers were close: Hamilton posted 1:49.834, Vettel 1:49.908, and Rosberg 1:50.299. Hamilton actually set that time on his initial flying lap and never actually got to improve it, allowing Vettel to edge a bit too close for comfort. In the end, though, Hamilton was able to clinch his 40th career F1 pole position. Meanwhile, surrendering P2 to the Ferrari means ending a… Continue Reading »
