Diamler Partner Fuso Posts 18% Sales Growth

In an industry where low single-digit sales bumps are trumpeted as significant gains, Fuso’s 18% sales growth cannot be described as anything less than stellar. Daimler’s Asian commercial vehicle subsidiary posted these figures as a result of selling 174,600 commercial vehicles last year. Fuso is planning 40 market launches this year to help propel it towards its “Fuso 2015” goal of selling 200,000 vehicles annually. Outside its home country of Japan, Fuso sold almost 140,000 trucks and buses for a sales increase of 15%. Sales were strongly driven by the continued growth in Southeast Asia, as well as in the Near and Middle East and Africa. Southeast Asia, and… Continue Reading »

Mercedes’ China Sales Dip For October

Compared to last year’s figures for the month of October, Mercedes-Benz reported that its China sales were almost 4% lower. When taken with the news that the automaker’s non-Japanese competitors experienced brisk sales, this seems like a worrying sign. However, Mercedes says that this year-on-year drop is due to last year’s very strong sales. Still, it’s not really welcome news for the company, in light of last week’s news that a major investor in the company had sold the bulk of its shareholdings to other parties. Mercedes has reminded us though that with the recent launch of the B-Class, a new niche has been opened up, which with the upcoming… Continue Reading »

Now Is A Good Time To Buy A C-Class In China

Some Mercedes dealers in China are reportedly slashing prices on their C-Class inventories in order to keep sales going. This is in reaction to the moves by Chinese authorities to decongest its major cities and tighten lending controls. Coupled with a slowdown in growth, the top luxury carmakers in China, meaning the top three German automakers, are resorting to deep discounts to keep their sales momentum going. BMW has reportedly offered a 19% discount on some 3-series models and some Mercedes-Benz dealers have countered with a 20% discount on C-Class models. Beijing-based analyst Scott Laprise of CLSA Asia Pacific Markets notes that, “We’re in a cycle of dropping prices. Dealers… Continue Reading »
