Classic Relationship Between Mercedes-Benz And France

The relationship between France and Mercedes-Benz has been special ever since the manufacturer introduced its first automobile into the country in 1898. This came well before the introduction of its luxury Mercedes-Benz S-Class into the market. At this time Germans did not think highly of automobiles, which made it practical for the Stuttgart-based car manufacturer to display its products at the pioneering international motor show in Paris. The event, organized by the Automobile Club de France, proved to be a breakthrough for the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft since France was considered as the leading country when it came to automobiles at that time. The entry of Emil Jellinek, an Austrian businessman, facilitated the… Continue Reading »

After retiring the Maybach luxury car brand, Daimler plans to make a successor to its 600 Pullman model. However, the new version will be under the Mercedes-Benz banner in its S-Class line of cars. The news was fueled by the recent spy shots that Autoblog featured last Friday. Based on the pictures of the camouflaged S-Class car, the new model will be longer than its predecessors and it will be featuring a massive set of rear doors to make room for a more spacious back passenger section. Based on the source, the new car will make use of the brand’s dual-turbocharged V12 engines. A hybrid version is also rumored to… Continue Reading »

A total of 16 suppliers have been recognized in the 2012 Daimler Supplier Awards for outstanding performance spanning the previous business year. “Our goal is profitable growth. ASK INDUSTRIES S.P.A., Burmester Audiosysteme GmbH, and Foster Electric (Europe) GmbH were three suppliers who garnered the “Special Award for Innovation” for their work on top-of-the-line sound system used in the new S-Class. Mercedes-Benz Global Sales Increase Except In Home Turf

A press release by Daimler revealed that Mercedes-Benz sold around 94,895 units in January. The figure was 9.2% more than the overall sales of the automaker in the same month last year. Daimler attributes the increase to the rebound of its operations in China. There was a 15.4% gain in the Chinese market alone as compared to January 2012, which translates to 16,695 units sold. Next to China is North America where the sales scored 24,783 units, which is around 10% more than January last year. Surprisingly, the sales in Germany did not fare well that month based on several news sources. There was a drop of 0.7% based on… Continue Reading »

Still A Long Wait For Those Expecting An S-Class 4-Door Convertible

While the Ocean Drive concept from 2007 gave glimpses of what it would be like to drive around in a four-door S-Class convertible, it seems that such a car will remain exactly that, a concept.  We now know that the upcoming S-Class will have a convertible in its lineup, although it will be a 2-door version. However, a 4-door convertible is not in the works for now because as anyone beholden to cars knows, concept to showroom is a far step, involving engineering, market studies, safety tests, etcetera, etcetera. In the case of a four-door convertible for the soon-to-be-released S-Class, it seems that it will be the engineering challenge that… Continue Reading »

2014 S-Class Coupe Seen Winter Testing

Scheduled for introduction at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, the new S-Class Coupe was recently seen winter testing. Unlike earlier pre-production prototypes with extensive camouflage cladding, this new coupe from Mercedes is seen in more or less final form. In fact, the only significant coverings on this car envelope the bumper area, where a lot of refinements can still be done to portray the look Mercedes designers want. And speaking of refinement, this luxury coupe is setting its sights on the Bentley Continental GT. Expect then that this top-of-the-line two-door from Mercedes to emphasize luxury as much as performance. Speaking of which, the 2014 S-Class coupe will not be a… Continue Reading »
