1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster Sells $9.6M

The 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster, which was put on sale by RM Auctions Sotheby’s a few days ago, was finally sold. The pre-war car with only 10,277 miles in its odometer fetched a whopping $9.9 million price tag last Friday. The cost of the classic car beat the previous record set in Arizona. The said record was held by the same seller for a 1964 Ferrari 250 LM worth $9.6 million, based on WZZM13. The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 S Roadster entered the market in January 2009 as a limited edition model of the 722 Edition. Potential buyers now have a chance of owning one of the 150 units produced by the luxury vehicle manufacturer from Germany since one unit was put up for sale in the Netherlands, as shown on a report from gtspirit.com. When the SLR 722 S Roadster was initially offered by Mercedes-Benz, it had a price tag of over $500,000. One unit put up for sale in 2013 had a quoted price of $488,000. A 1938 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster is set to hit the auction block tomorrow (July 18, 2015) at the Santa Monica Airport’s Barker Hangar in an event organized by Auctions America. The 1938 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster is a very rare find. Only 25 units of the auto were made from 1936 to 1940. It was unveiled at the 1936 Paris Motor Show as one of the cars that commemorated the 50th anniversary of the invention of the first automobile by Carl Benz. A very rare Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR Roadster has been confirmed to hit the auction block soon. According to Motor Authority, the race car featured in the picture above will be sold by Bonhams to the highest bidder in one of its events that will be held at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June. 1928 Mercedes SSK Sports Car Replica to be Auctioned

A very rare 1961 replica of a 1928 Mercedes SSK sports car was announced for auction recently. According to a ChronicleLive report, the vintage car will be going under the gavel on November 1 at Village Auctions in North Tyne Industrial Estate, Benton. Although the two-seater car was inspired by the design of the 1928 Mercedes SSK, its engine was from a Volkswagen Beetle. It seems the car has received additional minor customization as well, looking at the new badges that were placed into its steering wheel and bumper.
