Mercedes-Benz Sets Its Goal On Going “Green”

CLS goes green 597x336 Mercedes Benz Sets Its Goal On Going Green
During last week’s press conference by Mercedes-Benz at the Paris Auto Show, the German carmaker presented its CLS, which was the showcase of the event. During this time, Dieter Zetsche, Mercedes CEO and Annette Winkler, Smart Head, gave a thirty minute talk with regards to the consumer and environmental offerings of the company. But before rolling out the CLS, Mercedes first featured the Smart Ad Lib, Smart scooter, Smart bicycle, Mercedes A-Class E-Cell, and the 2.2 liter four cylinder diesel S-Class.

Though there is no certain time limit on this project, it is guaranteed that if the company is going to compete with BMW and Audi in the emissions and efficiency market, it would need go beyond the common ideas of the brand. Audi has presented its electronic drive and BMW has its Efficient Dynamics, lately Mercedes has only shown their line of various projects under no particular bracket, this includes the all-hybrid S-Class line, more efficient ICE engines, and the latest chain of small vehicles for the US.

To be able to attain this, Mercedes will require some actions that were “previously unthinkable” in the past, like the hybrid S-Class and the anticipated four-cylinder. Experts are presently anticipating on how Mercedes-Benz would achieve their goal, and if it will include the need for closing out Maybach. According to Zetsche, this will not be random project, as the company wants to be known for their efficiency, and that is their main goal.

How do will you celebrate your 125th birthday? Let’s see… how about giving your loved ones a very special calendar? That’s nice, isn’t it? That’s exactly what Mercedes-Benz is doing for its 125th anniversary. The company has just spread word of the release of a very special calendar through their Mercedes-Benz Musuem Shop as well as online.

Photographer Stuttgart Hans-Peter helped in bringing the calendar into fruition. The said calendar will be featuring special images from the Mercedes-Benz Museum and will be sold for EUR29.90 starting October 15th.

Dubbed as the Mercedes-Benz Classic Calendar, it’ll be showcasing the company’s creations throughout its 125 years of existence. The images will be in large format and will be very synonymous with the Mercedes-Benz brand. The branding perspective applied to the calendar hopes to trigger emotions through the blending of Mercedes-Benz vehicle images and the architectural language of the Musuem.

The goal is to capture Mercedes-Benz’s 125-year history in a span of 12 pages. The calendar can also be used perpetually, meaning it can be used for date reference even beyond 2011.

Of course, you can expect a lot more for Mercedes-Benz’s 125th year anniversary. The calendar is just the beginning. If we were you, we’d already be making plans for the Paris Auto Show in October where the new CLS will be making its debut. See you there!

The A-Class E-Cell charges up for Paris

Want to get a load of the latest in hybrid and electric vehicle technology? Then you’d better be at the Paris Auto Show this August as the industry’s most promising hybrid and electric vehicles take center stage on this unique event.

In case you’re wondering, Mercedes-Benz will be introducing a whole new variant for the A-Class. Rightfully named as the E-Cell, hopefully it will pull in enough crowds at the Show to gain an early step in its production cycle. As far as manufacturing is concerned, there are only going to be 500 units made. Right now, we’re a little lacking on details, but it looks like Mercedes-Benz is set to announce officially the A-Class E-Cell.

Several sources suggest that the A-Class E-Cell will be running a battery pack and controller combo that’s sourced from Tesla. Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler AG happens to own a controlling stake on Tesla, in case you’re wondering.

As far as range goes, the E-Cell will run around 124 miles on a full pack. And it will have around 214 lb-ft torque spilling from its drive wheels. Both the A-Class and the B-Class will be produced at two plants, namely in Kecskemet, Hungary and Rastatt, Germany. As for the 500 test vehicles, well, they’re going to be sold or leased to companies for further testing procedures, of course.
