Off Road Magazine Readers Vote Mercedes-Benz Unimog Vehicle of the Year (Special Vehicles Category)

In the Special Vehicles category, the Mercedes-Benz Unimog won the best off-road vehicle of the year, as voted by the readers of the Off Road trade magazine. The Unimog garnered 31.1 percent of the votes in its segment. A total of more than 74,000 votes cast for some 125 vehicles that were included in the thirteen categories. The magazine has been conducting reader polls since 1982. For the 2013 model year, the different Unimog variants got a major overhaul, as the interiors and exteriors had been completely redesigned. Special G-Class editions released

German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz proudly releases two brand new models of the G-Class off-road vehicle. The twins, known as the Edition Select and the BA3 Final Edition, can be differentiated by their wheelbase length – one being longer than the other. Two variants will be offered for the shorter BA3 Final Edition model, specifically the G350 BlueTEC whose 6-cylinder diesel engine is capable of 211 hp and 540 Nm and the G 500 with a 5.5-liter gasoline engine which can easily churn out 388 hp and 530 Nm. Daimler sends fleet to Japan for disaster relief assistance

Daimler has already sent at least 2 million euro worth of cash donation to Japan in order to help with relief efforts after the quake and tsunami disaster that hit the country. Now, the company has decided to amp up the support for victims by sending 50 vehicles worth almost 4 million euro to Nippon Foundation, the Japanese aid organization that is responsible for spearheading rebuilding activities in disaster-struck areas in Japan. The main role that the vehicles are going to play is in giving support assistance to clean-up operations being undertaken in the country’s northeastern region. Mercedes-Benz G-Class Takes Two Titles in “Off Road” Reader Survey

The recent reader survey from “Off Road” saw the Mercedes-Benz G-Class awarded with two wins, taking first place in both the Luxury off-road vehicle category and in the Classic category. The wins put the G-Class in the specialist publication’s winners’ circle for the eighth year, and as such staked its claim as the Off-road Vehicle of the Year. The G-Class was not the only winner for Mercedes-Benz, however. G-Class Propels Top German Offroader to Victory

With the cooperation of Mercedes-Benz and Continental Tires, German magazine ‘auto motor und sport’ recently held the Offroad Challenge 2010. Last May, auto motor und sport signed up more than 500 drivers to participate in the Offroad Challenge 2010. The magazine’s selection process reduced the list of hopeful candidates to 60.  The preliminary round was composed of groups of 20, who then competed on three difficult off-road courses in Brandenburg, Rheinland-Pfalz and Bavaria during the months of July and September. Siyamak Rouhi Dehkordi, a renowned engineer from Iran, has let his imagination loose and created a Mercedes-based Hexawheel concept. It is an extreme off-road automobile that a flexible frame and six wheels layout with Mercedes-Benz design. The concept vehicle caters to the discerning needs of individuals who need to travel to extremely difficult conditions and treacherous terrains.
