Rosberg Finishes Second in Indian Grand Prix

The 2013 Indian Grand Prix will be best remembered as the race wherein Sebastian Vettel clinched his fourth straight world championship. Still, it was a valiant effort from the Mercedes drivers as Nico Rosberg snagged second place and Lewis Hamilton managed a P6 finish. With the strong performance—the team’s best since August, where Hamilton and Rosberg finished third and fourth, respectively, at the Belgian Grand Prix—Mercedes moves back into second place ahead of Ferrari. It’s been clear that the team has been targeting second place, what with Red Bull’s dominance and clear path to the title. In fact, second place is not a bad spot at all, because of the… Continue Reading »

Mercedes Stutters at Suzuka; Rosberg 8th in 2013 Japanese GP

In what would go down as one of the most disappointing races for the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team this season, Lewis Hamilton had to retire after seven laps and Nico Rosberg settled for eighth place at the 2013 Japanese Grand Prix. Hamilton qualified for P3 on the starting grid, and actually got off to a good start off the five red lights, only to see all that work come undone after contact with Sebastian Vettel’s Red Bull heading into turn 1. Contact with Vettel’s front wing led to a puncture in the right rear tire, and that was basically it for Hamilton as running for nearly an entire lap… Continue Reading »

Hamilton 5th, Rosberg 7th in 2013 Korean Grand Prix

It was another solid outing for the Mercedes F1 team. Solid, but most definitely not stellar. At the 2013 Korean Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton finished in fifth place, with teammate Nico Rosberg a couple of spots behind him in P7. The finish secures a bunch more important points for the team, yet it underscores the inability of the team to consistently get superb performance out of the car. At least, it hasn’t been enough to really grab some more wins. Tire wear has reared its ugly head, with Hamilton suffering from it on his right front one, right in his second stint after a stop. Rosberg, on the other hand, had… Continue Reading »

Lewis Hamilton Had to Win Belgium for Mercedes

We knew heading into the Belgian Grand Prix this past weekend that being able to score another win would be pivotal for the Mercedes team’s campaign. Newcomer Lewis Hamilton had just scored his first race win, and being able to win another one would definitely boost the team’s chances to get back in the hunt for the title. Alas, the team was not fated to win the first race after the summer break. Hamilton, starting from pole position, had to settle for third place, behind Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso. Incidentally, Vettel sits atop the drivers’ standings with eight races to go, and Alonso is in second place. Sure, the… Continue Reading »

[F1] Hamilton Happy to Get Win, Rosberg Remains Upbeat

After winning the 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix, Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton was finally able to get a big monkey off his back. It took him nine races to get his first win as a driver for the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team, but he’ll take it gladly and it couldn’t have come at a better time, heading into the midway break of the season. It was Hamilton’s 22nd career race win, and his fourth overall at the Hungaroring. “We really didn’t expect this when we came here this weekend and I said last night that I would need a miracle to win today,” said the British driver. “Well, just maybe… Continue Reading »

[F1] Lewis Hamilton Wins 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton cruised all the way to the 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix title with a magnificent drive and with some breaks going his way in a track on which it was hard to overtake. The decisive win effectively keeps his championship hopes alive. He certainly took advantage of his third-straight pole position, finally converting it into a win, which was incidentally his first as a Silver Arrows driver. Hamilton is no stranger to starting in P1 only to be overtaken by Red Bull cars off the five red lights. This time, Hamilton was able to retain P1 this time around, with Sebastian Vettel in P2 being distracted by a blazing-fast… Continue Reading »

[F1] Mercedes Quotes after Hungarian GP Qualifying

With Lewis Hamilton claiming a third-straight pole position at the qualifying for the 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix, and Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg starting in the second row at P4 on the grid, there are high hopes for the Silver Arrows for Sunday’s race. Here are some quotes from key personnel after the qualifying session. “I was really surprised when the guys told me over the radio that I was on pole today,” said Hamilton, who incidentally passed Ayrton Senna on the all-time career pole list. “It was a good lap but I thought Sebastian had done enough. So it’s fantastic – and also to get three pole positions in a… Continue Reading »
