F1: Select Mercedes AMG Petronas Quotes for Silverstone

The British Grand Prix is fast approaching, and while all eyes are on the British trio of Jenson Button, Paul di Resta, and Lewis Hamilton, there’s no telling who’ll really come out on top. Mercedes AMG Petronas is clearly going to do its best to score a win behind drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher. Here are some quotes from them as a preview for the upcoming race this weekend. “Racing in Silverstone is a special moment every year,” Schumacher said. “It’s quite simply the home of motorsport and I’m always amazed by the knowledge and enthusiasm of the British fans—as a racing driver, it’s great to experience this passion… Continue Reading »

F1: Schumacher Claims Podium Finish in European GP

All things finally fell into place for Michael Schumacher, at least for one race. The German, who has struggled since his comeback, finally took a podium finish by nabbing third place at the 2012 European Grand Prix, boosting Mercedes AMG Petronas’s bid in the constructors standings and lifting Schumacher’s own dismal personal record so far this season. Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso took the victory in a race filled with incidents, not the least of which was the one that took out Lewis Hamilton and Pastor Maldonado, who were then contesting P2. This opened things up for the rest of the pack, particularly Schumacher. Alonso, who started at 11th, now breaks the… Continue Reading »

F1: Rosberg 6th, Schumacher 12th as Vettel Takes Pole in Valencia Qualifying

At the end of such a closely fought qualifying session for the European Grand Prix, the dust settled and found Nico Rosberg at sixth. There was, however, a tighter contest for the pole position, which Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel finally claimed from McLaren Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton. “We had a lot of potential going into qualifying, but unfortunately I can’t be happy with the outcome today,” said Rosberg. “We were quick throughout but when I was just about to start my final lap, Lewis was slowing down in the last corner. I had to start my quick lap behind him which made it impossible to improve my time.” In a rather… Continue Reading »

Without a doubt, everyone at Mercedes AMG Petronas has their work cut out for them. Still, the team remains optimistic going into the European Grand Prix at the Valencia Street Circuit. Here are some select quotes from the drivers. “The track is another street circuit but it’s quite a unique one as it is quicker and has a more open feel than somewhere like Monaco or Singapore,” said Nico Rosberg, who is currently fifth in the drivers’ standings and is just 21 points behind leader Lewis Hamilton. “I was at the factory this week and I know how hard everyone is working to improve the car, so we will hope… Continue Reading »

F1: Mercedes Prioritizing Reliability for Schumi

With five retirements in the 7 races so far in the 2012 Formula One season, many are thinking this year might be the last we see of Michael Schumacher in a Mercedes uniform. Still, the Mercedes AMG Petronas team is gearing up to make sure that reliability problems will no longer affect Schumi’s subsequent races. At the last race, the Canadian GP, Schumacher was on pace to finish in the lower end of the points but had to retire when his ride’s DRS got stuck open. So far, the German driver and 7-time F1 champ still has only 2 total championship points. “Zero-defect reliability is our highest priority,” said Ross… Continue Reading »

F1: Rosberg Settles for 6th as Hamilton takes Canadian GP

The Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team and driver Nico Rosberg had to settle for a “decent” performance at the Canadian Grand Prix, with the German driver getting a sixth-place finish in a race that saw the seventh different winner in the first seven races of the 2012 F1 season—McLaren-Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton. Mercedes teammate Michael Schumacher, who was hoping for a better result in this race which he has won 7 times, started at ninth on the grid but had to retire after 43 laps because of hydraulic problems that ended up with his car’s DRS getting stuck. “Sixth place is a decent result today and it’s important for both me… Continue Reading »
