Mercedes-Benz Posts Record July Sales

Mercedes-Benz is off to a solid start for the second half of 2013, with the German luxury car maker posting record results for July and managing 20% growth on year-over-year figures for the month. A total of 116,790 vehicle units were sold over last month. That puts the year-to-date tally up to 811,227 units, which marks an 8.1-percent increase over the same January-to-August period in 2012. Dr Joachim Schmidt, Mercedes-Benz Cars executive vice president for sales and marketing, credited the success of the new E-Class as well as the continued popularity of the automaker’s compact models. [Video] Mercedes-Benz E-Class Premiere at 2013 NAIAS

If you missed the official unveiling of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class at the 2013 North American International Auto Show (a.k.a. the Detroit Auto Show), here’s a nice 3-minute feature from the folks at Mercedes-Benz TV. Probable 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Spotted in Madrid

What you see here is probably the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, photographed by Victor Gutierrez Poza from his room in a Madrid hotel. It’s still a bit clad in shroud at the rear, but most of the body is visible—including a view of the unibody headlights. It veers away from the four-headlight setup commonly found in recent E-Class vehicles, which is why many believe this could be the refreshed E-Class. Evident in the picture as well are the vehicle’s fresh bumper and grille, and the rims seem to have been redesigned, too. Mercedes-Benz Outs E-Class Hybrid

Mercedes-Benz has outed more details on the E 300 BlueTEC Hybrid, touted as the automaker’s most efficient production E-Class to date. The hybrid is powered by a combination of a four-cylinder diesel engine, which gives it 204 horsepower with top torque of 500Nm, and a 20-kilowatt electric motor. This hybrid powertrain is coupled with the automaker’s 7G-Tronic Plus automatic gearbox and is supported by a 19kWH Li-Ion battery. Top speed for the hybrid is pegged at 150 mph, and it will take the car just 7.5 seconds to go from zero to 62 mph.
