Lewis Hamilton Had to Win Belgium for Mercedes

We knew heading into the Belgian Grand Prix this past weekend that being able to score another win would be pivotal for the Mercedes team’s campaign. Newcomer Lewis Hamilton had just scored his first race win, and being able to win another one would definitely boost the team’s chances to get back in the hunt for the title. Alas, the team was not fated to win the first race after the summer break. Hamilton, starting from pole position, had to settle for third place, behind Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso. Incidentally, Vettel sits atop the drivers’ standings with eight races to go, and Alonso is in second place. Sure, the… Continue Reading »

F1: Mercedes’ Hamilton Buoyed by First Win

It’s amazing what a race win can do for a driver’s confidence. Just take Lewis Hamilton, who only recently managed to win his first race as a member of the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team. It took Hamilton 10 races to get that first win after leaving McLaren-Mercedes, finally getting the proverbial monkey off his back at the Hungaroring on July 28. Now, at the summer break and the midway point of the F1 season, Hamilton will be sacrificing his vacation time despite a well-earned rest. The Brit, who has managed four pole positions in the first ten races of 2013, is scheduled to continue training for the remaining nine races…. Continue Reading »

The video takes a simulated F1 car across a full lap on the Monza circuit It’s the first real insight we have on the new engine apart from the fact that it’s a 1.6L turbocharged unit with max rev limit of 15,000 rpm and up to 125,000 rpm for a single turbocharger. You’ll notice that there’s a noticeable difference between how the current engines sound, although we might want to wait for a real field test. He certainly took advantage of his third-straight pole position, finally converting it into a win, which was incidentally his first as a Silver Arrows driver.
