F1: Schumacher 4th, Rosberg 6th on Italian GP Grid

Mercedes AMG Petronas hasn’t had quite a strong qualifying in a while, but the team was competitive in Monza, with Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg qualifying fifth and seventh, respectively. With Force India-Mercedes’s Paul di Resta, who qualified at fourth, getting demoted 5 places on the grid for a gearbox change, the Mercedes drivers moved up to fourth and sixth on the starting grid. “I think we can be satisfied with our qualifying performance as we have performed consistently all weekend,” Schumacher said. “Solid points should be a realistic target for tomorrow. The fact that I will start from fourth is another small positive point, because here the even numbers… Continue Reading »

F1: Italian Grand Prix Preview

After the month-long layoff, we’re back to 3 Grand Prix events per month all the way until the 2012 Formula One season concludes in November. Up next on the schedule is the Italian Grand Prix, which takes place in Monza this weekend. Here are some select words from our favorite Mercedes AMG Petronas drivers. “When I think of Monza, I immediately see everything through a red veil,” said Michael Schumacher, who placed seventh last week and should compete well in Italy, the home race of Scuderia Ferrari for whom Schumi won 5 of his 7 F1 titles. “It is the beating racing heart of Italy, everything there lives and breathes… Continue Reading »

Schumacher Finishes 7th in Belgian GP

Competing in his 300th Grand Prix, Michael Schumacher was able to make something out of a bleak situation at the Belgian Grand Prix, steering his F1 W03 to a respectable 7th place finish despite starting at P13 on the grid. This was after a collision off the start of the race that resulted in the retirements of some of the frontrunners. The collision took out the cars from P4 through P8 on the grid: Sergio Perez, Fernando Alonso, Pastor Maldonado, Lewis Hamilton, and Romain Grosjean. Maldonado was actually able to last 3 laps before succumbing to collision damage. Jenson Button was able to steer clear of the collision and managed… Continue Reading »

F1: Mercedes Will Do Better – Brawn

Mercedes AMG Petronas team principal Ross Brawn knows that the pressure is on. With 9 races left in the 2012 Formula One season, his team is stuck at fifth in the team standings—and people are already counting the team out as far as this season’s contenders go. Still, Brawn has high hopes for the team bannered by Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher. While Brawn acknowledges some of the peaks of the team so far this year—achievements include Rosberg’s win in China and a podium finish for Michael Schumacher in the European Grand Prix—the F1 veteran wants more. “We also feel that we are not quite where we want to be… Continue Reading »

Mercedes Gearing Up for 2012 Hungarian Grand Prix

After a decent but ultimately lacklustre showing in its home race at Hockenheim, the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team is now ready to move on and is preparing for the 2012 Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend. Hungary marks the start of the second half of the 2012 F1 season, and it is also the last race before a month-long hiatus (the Belgian Grand Prix isn’t until September 2). Hungary is a “challenging track,” as described by Nico Rosberg, featuring 10 of the 14 total corners that have to be taken at 155 kph or less. In addition, 13 percent of each lap is spent just for braking. There are 11… Continue Reading »

All Set for Hockenheim: Schumacher starting 3rd on German GP Grid

There’s only less than half an hour to go before the 2012 German Grand Prix kicks off, and the Germans are looking good at home. While the rain-filled qualifying session was won by Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, Mercedes AMG Petronas driver Michael Schumacher will start at P3 behind the Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel, with Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg right after Schumi. Schumacher actually qualified at P4, but Mark Webber had to drop 5 spots because of a gearbox change. Speaking of gearbox changes, Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg will start at 21st after being penalized five places as well. Rounding out the top ten are Pastor Maldonado (P5), the two McLarens… Continue Reading »
