Mercedes third and fourth at Hungarian Grand Prix

Mercedes AMG Petronas was able to secure another podium at the very least at the Hungarian Grand Prix, with Lewis Hamilton finishing in third place. Nico Rosberg, meanwhile, finished fourth as Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo won his second GP of the season and maintained his status as the only other driver apart from Mercedes drivers to win a race in 2014. Adding a bit of drama to the race was a particular moment near the end of the race in which the team asked Hamilton to let his teammate pass–and understandably so. Hamilton drove a hell of a race, starting from the pit lane and working his way up the field…. Continue Reading »

Is Sebastian Vettel Jumping to Mercedes

Sebastian Vettel of Infiniti Red Bull Racing played down rumors that he is planning on joining the Mercedes AMG Petronas bandwagon after the 2015 season. He also denied similar rumors that he will be joining McLaren after the next Formula One season. The speculations originated from the comments of Dr. Helmut Marko, the motorsport advisor of Red Bull, according to Sky Sports. Marko hinted that the four-time champion has received offers from Mercedes and McLaren. He further said that Mercedes is hoping to pair him with Nico Rosberg when Lewis Hamilton exits the team in 2015. However Vettel responded that although he considers any offer, nothing has changed. He added he… Continue Reading »

Mercedes Opens Talks for Contract Renewal with Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton has never been in a great shape since 2008 wherein he emerged as the Formula One World Champion. Currently, he is gunning for the first position in the drivers’ rankings with only his teammate Nico Rosberg in his way with a 14-point lead after the 2014 German Grand Prix concluded last Sunday. According to the U.K. mirror, the Briton still has 18 months left in his contract with Mercedes AMG Petronas. However, as a reward for his impressive performance this season, Toto Wolff revealed that talks are ongoing about Hammy’s contract renewal. Based on the report, the latest offer to Hamilton is around £23 million annually. That is £4 million… Continue Reading »

Rosberg wins pole position in German GP as Hamilton ends stint in Q1

It was a bittersweet qualifying session for the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team at its home race, the German Grand Prix. Nico Rosberg was able to secure yet another pole position — his fifth of the season, and the team’s ninth overall out of ten races so far — while Lewis Hamilton had a brake disc failure during Q1, forcing him to end his session right there as the failure sent him spinning into a wall in Hockenheim. Hamilton’s time was good enough for Q2, but since he was not able to get a run in, he only qualifies at P16 on the grid. With Sauber’s Esteban Gutiérrez (P14 down to P17) getting docked three… Continue Reading »

The Coming German GP is Crucial for Rosberg

Mercedes AMG Petronas officially announced the new multi-year contract extension of Nico Rosberg. We have already reported the Rosberg contract extension months ago, wherein inside sources said that it is a two-year deal. However, Mercedes has been very much reserved on the matter until recently. The announcement seemed to have been made to build up hype for their German driver in the upcoming Formula One Grand Prix. It should be noted that despite Rosberg spending most of his youth in Monaco, he strongly acknowledges his roots in Germany. “As a German, the heritage of Mercedes-Benz is very special for me,” the young driver said. The big revelation about the contract extension, though no longer a surprise to a… Continue Reading »

Hugo Boss Joins Mercedes Bandwagon in Formula One

McLaren and Hugo Boss have been in partnership for around 33 years in Formula One. However, a recent report revealed that the luxury fashion brand is about to end its alliance with the eight-time Constructors’ Champion in favor of Mercedes AMG Petronas, which is the dominant team in F1 this year. According to NBC’s MotorSportsTalk blog, Hugo Boss will no longer extend its partnership with McLaren up to 2015. This coincides with the F1 team’s decision to severe its engine deal with Mercedes in favor of Honda. While Hugo Boss is only a minor sponsor of McLaren, the loss would surely hurt the team as it has been its a long-time partner…. Continue Reading »

Lewis Hamilton wins British GP for Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton won the 2014 British Grand Prix, giving the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team its eighth victory in nine races so far this season. It was also Hamilton’s fifth win this year and, coupled with the retirement in the race of teammate Nico Rosberg, allowed the Brit to get that much closer to the drivers’ standings lead. Despite retiring on lap 29 and thus scoring no championship points, Rosberg is still ahead of the drivers’ standings with an idle 165 points. However, Hamilton only trails by a mere four points now. Gearbox problems prevented Rosberg from completing more than half the duration of the British GP. It also equalises the number of retirements for… Continue Reading »
