RENNTech SLR Shows Extreme Performance From Minimal Mods

Some people just have no respect for the Mercedes engineers who spend hundreds, if not thousands, of hours testing and tuning the carmaker’s products for the best performance. And that’s actually a good thing, because if there were no tuners like RENNtech who seek to obtain the ultimate performance from cars they lay their hands on, we wouldn’t be seeing this video.

Billed as the world’s fastest Mercedes-powered Mercedes, this video shows a RENNtech-tuned Mercedes SLR McLaren doing a 10.31 in the quarter mile. With a trap speed of 136 mph, it’s pretty quick, considering that the mods done to it consisted only of bolt-ons. Combining a smaller supercharger pulley, upgraded intercoolers, revised ECU and a sports exhaust resulted in an output of 770 horsepower. As you can see, the tuner left well enough alone but even with these relatively minor mods, the resulting performance was enough to turn in a pretty quick time.

We all know that the Mercedes McLaren is a super cool car. Well, in fact, all Mercedes cars are way too cool that’s why lots of tuners are getting interested in making them look and perform even better.

Wheelsandmore for example, has targeted the Mercedes McLaren SLR 722 recently. The tuner lowered the suspension and added Dunlop Sportmaxx Tires in a huge 20-inch forged wheels. Under the hood, they empowered the McLaren car more by tuning it to have 950 Nm of torque and 727HP. On the other hand, the interior was made more gorgeous with generous helpings of nappa leather and some carbon fiber.

McLaren Mercedes SLR 722 GTB by Sievers

Launched at the 2011 Essen Show is this McLaren Mercedes by Sievers. Based on the already powerful SLR 722, Sievers has bumped the output of this car to a heady 814 horsepower. And while they were at it, the tuner also found enough weight savings to trim the car down to the 1,500 kilo range. Sievers hasn’t released any numbers but horsepower calculators you’ll find online predict a sub-3.5 second 0-60 mph time.  Although these numbers would make you think that this is a race car, it is in fact street legal.

The only numbers the chief executive officer would release were the top speed of over 350 kilometers per hour and a price tag of 1.9 million Euros.  Not exactly a Black Friday special, but then again, Sievers, or for that matter, Mercedes, doesn’t make enough of this exclusive toy that you can find them in any Mercedes showroom.

Wheelsandmore Unleashes Its SLR 7o7

Owners of the McLaren SLR who, despite the rarity of their supercars desire more exclusivity can now look to Wheelsandmore, the German tuners known for their exteme makeovers.

Obviously, 620 horsepower is not enough for these guys, as their made over SLR, proudly called the SLR 7o7 edition makes, you guessed it, 707 horsepower. This extra output was made possible with the use of a larger compressor and ECU tuning. Torque output is also an outstanding 915 Nm, compared to the stock, but not insignificant 780 Nm.

This extra power is handled by a racing-style coilover suspension featuring high-strength aluminum, as well as lightweight 20-inch wheels wrapped in Dunlop Sportmaxx rubber. These grippy tires assist the car in making its 3.5-second, 0-60 mph time. Interior tweaks have been limited to carbon fiber trim and AMG shift paddles, as the extra power and improved handling are more than enough to keep the driver occupied.

Chrome SLR Mclaren Is A Silver Bullet

Although it’s the SLS that has been hogging the limelight these days, the Mercedes SLR McLaren still has enough credibility as a sports car to be taken seriously. Now, this chromed example is an even more incredible example of one of Mercedes’ finest.

Reportedly owned by an Arab, this car was given the full treatment, as it’s got 20-inch chrome wheels and chrome tinted windows. Since Brabus handled the modifications, we can assume that the upgrades did not stop with the exterior. Some engine tuning was also done to increase output to 650 horsepower but because this car was caught moving, no detail shots of the interior are available. It’s safe to say that it won’t be stock. With a top speed of 340 km/h and at 0-100 time of 3.6 seconds, this car should look like the proverbial silver bullet as it flashes down the road.
