Classic Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing Gets a Totally Unusual Makeover From Mechanic

A very rare classic Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing Coupe gets a total makeover after a Mechatronics mechanic and his teen apprentice takes it for a joyride in the highway according to Der Spiegel. Well, the makeover I mean does not involve enhancing the car in any way. Apparently, their idea of a makeover was going above the speed limit and then rolling the car on the side of the road to achieve a totally dented armor, broken glass and scattered parts. German police reports confirmed that the driver did not observe the prescribed speed limit of 55mph. As a result, it careered out of control and hit the side of… Continue Reading »

Open-air Motoring In An SLS AMG Coupe

Although today’s SLS AMG isn’t as unique for having its gullwing doors as its original predecessor the 300SL, said doors give the SLS AMG its hallmark style. Anyone who rolls in an SLS AMG definitely has a sense of style, not to mention a healthy dose of gray matter for being able to afford one. Which makes it a tad puzzling why the occupants of this car saw fit to open the gullwing doors of the SLS they were in. A bit of reckless abandon perhaps? Life is good and all that? Maybe checking out if they could produce some lift? All in the spirit of fun, we suppose, as… Continue Reading »

Owner Drives An Icon As It Was Meant To Be

Without question, one of the most iconic classic cars in the world, Mercedes-Benz or otherwise, is the 300 SL Gullwing. Its beautiful shape, unique doors and outstanding performance combined to make it a true instant classic. First introduced in 1954, the SL (Sport Leicht) was never in abundance, as only 1,400 Gullwing coupes were ever produced. In truth, the 300 SL was a sweet-looking race car for the street, as underneath the beautiful body was a tube chassis, chosen for weight savings with acceptable strength. Since part of the chassis intruded into the section where a normal door would be positioned, the designers opted for the distinctive gullwing doors. Suspension… Continue Reading »
