A Peek Inside the Mercedes F 015 Luxury In Motion

Self-driving cars are already a reality. Decades ago, it was only a subject of science fiction stories, but now, giant companies such as Google, Tesla, and Mercedes are already fulfilling the prophecies of the past about cars on auto-pilot. Although still not in its mass production stage, it may not be long until cars equipped with artificial intelligence become a staple in households and dominate our roads. Mercedes-Benz estimated that it would take at least a decade away before it releases its autonomous vehicles while Google looks to be aiming to roll out its own sooner. While the three-pointed star brand may not be the first to incorporate the self-driving idea to… Continue Reading »

Daimler Promises to Keep the Steering Wheel in Autonomous Cars

With the coming wave of autonomous cars and even trucks, several questions were raised by critics and auto enthusiasts. Among them is, “what happens to the steering wheel?” According to Bloomberg, Daimler CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche promised that they will still retain the features that have defined automobiles since its invention like the steering wheel, and the basic pedals. The introduction of autonomous cars is currently perceived by many as an event that might put a lot of traditional car components inconsequential. That is the reason why Google killed off all the manual features in its prototype driverless car. However, Dr. Zetsche stated in his speech at Oxford yesterday, “We specifically do not want to… Continue Reading »

Microsoft Joins the Car OS Wars

During the early week of this month at the Build conference, Microsoft unveiled its own car operating system concept. The car OS being developed by the multinational corporation founded by Bill Gates aims to compete with Apple’s CarPlay and Google’s Projected Mode project. On its preview, the audiences can’t help but compare it against Apple’s CarPlay because Microsoft’s car OS had striking similarities with it. Like its rival’s product, the car OS of Microsoft enables placing calls, sending messages, listening to music and viewing the vehicle’s diagnostics. Steve Teixeira of Microsoft’s development division noted though that safety is the primary concern of their OS. For instance, when the car is mobile,… Continue Reading »

The connectivity of vehicles with mobile devices and the Internet are crucial to their survival in the market. This statement came from Daimler boss Dr. Dieter Zetsche during his interview with Reuters after Mercedes revealed that Apple’s new iOS for car system called the “CarPlay” will be integrated with its upcoming vehicles. Daimler also confirmed that they will be offering compatibility to devices running the Android platform-based on the source. Daimler accidentally leaks Google Projected Mode

When Internet companies’ upcoming products get leaked, it’s usually through tech blogs, insiders, or marketing ploys intended to drum up interest. This time, though, a job advertisement from a partner is the culprit, as Daimler, the parent company of German automaker Mercedes-Benz, unwittingly leaked Google’s “Projected Mode” via a job posting on its web site, which to our knowledge has since been amended. There really isn’t much that can be learned about this new Google software or technology, especially coming from a vague passage within a job ad. Still, it’s probably going to have to do with telematics. The timing is quite interesting, as Apple is set to unveil its… Continue Reading »
