Introducing the Mercedes-Benz GLA

Mercedes-Benz is developing a new crossover based on the A-Class platform, and word around cyberspace is that this new model will be named the GLA. Sources have pegged the GLA to be of the same size as the B-Class and should feature Mercedes-Benz’s MFA front-wheel drive platform. There are barely any details out right now, but many experts and sources are envisioning a range of four-cylinder petrols and turbodiesels that are of the same range found in today’s A-Class and B-Class models. This new compact crossover unit should provide Mercedes with an answer to such competitor models as the Audi Q3 and the BMW X1, and even the Range Rover… Continue Reading »

More diesel engine options for future models

Would you mind switching to diesel? Apparently, luxury car companies don’t mind at all, especially with the big names such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz. BMW’s new 3-Series models are now running on diesel, while Mercedes-Benz’s C250 cars now running with an 1800cc turbocharged 4-cylinder under their hoods. Another model which will soon be sporting a diesel powerplant is the 2013 GLK. Potential owners will have the option to drive with a 2.1-liter turbodiesel engine for the GLK. Future C-Class, E-Class and SLK models may also be given the diesel option, according to Mercedes-Benz SL roadster project manager Gunter Fischer. Perhaps one of the biggest underlying reasons that the brand is… Continue Reading »

GLK Diesel To Be Made Available In The U.S.

Acknowledging that diesels are making inroads in terms of acceptability in one of the world’s largest markets, Mercedes-Benz of North America is planning to introduce a diesel GLK, concurrent with its plans to also introduce a diesel-powered C-Class. Today’s crop of diesel engines are far removed from their predecessors, which deserved their reputation as oil burners with their unmistakable clatter. Nowadays, diesel engines rival gasoline engines in terms of smoothness and power generation, while significantly offering higher levels of fuel efficiency with much lower harmful emissions. For the 2013 model year, Mercedes’ GLK diesel model will sport a 2200 cc common rail engine with an output of 170 hp and… Continue Reading »

Facelifted GLK Caught On Camera

Not unexpectedly, a facelifted Mercedes-Benz GLK has been caught in the wild by spy photogs, with only minimal coverings to its refreshed front and rear ends. As usual, only minor updates will bedeck the facelifted GLK, such as LED running lights and headlights with more angular planes in their execution. With its fairly new design, the GLK doesn’t need a major design upgrade or facelift, in the way its older and bigger G-Class big brother needs one. With the facelifted model running down the road, the photographers were not able to catch any interior upgrades, if any. Since the company is still mum on updates to this model, there is… Continue Reading »
