Ferrari Beats Mercedes in F1 Qualifying

Ferrari continued its momentum at the Formula One Qualifying held this Saturday for the Russian Grand Prix. Sebastian Vettel locked the pole position while his teammate Kimi Raikkonen grabbed the second place. Mercedes drivers Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton landed on third and fourth in the starting grid in Sochi, respectively. The battle in Russia seem to be between Ferrari and Mercedes based on the recent F1 Qualifying results. The red cars beat the Silver Arrows by a tenth of a second. No other teams came that close to the leaders as the fifth-placer Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull was more than a second slower than Hamilton’s race car. During Q1,… Continue Reading »

Did Mercedes F1 Team Sandbag During Sochi Practice?

Ferrari appeared impressive during the Sochi practice for the upcoming Formula One Russian Grand Prix. Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel’s car finished more than half a second faster than three-time world champion Mercedes F1 driver Lewis Hamilton. However, the Ferrari driver was not convinced of the results. Vettel alleged that Mercedes F1 might have sandbagged during practice. He recalled the dominating record of the team in Sochi as they secured every pole and led every lap in the circuit since its inaugural race in 2014. He pointed another example last year when Williams was expected to be the fastest only for Mercedes to prove the predictions wrong. The Ferrari driver expects Mercedes to come out strong… Continue Reading »

Bahrain GP: Hamilton, Bottas finish in podium but Vettel secures win

The 2017 Bahrain GP was surely fruitful for Mercedes. The team did, after all, see Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas finish in second and third place, respectively. However, it’s disappointing for the team to see Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari take home the race victory. Bottas started from pole and managed to hold off Vettel at the start, but eventually finished 20 seconds out of the top spot. Hamilton made a play for it late in the game but could not catch Vettel, who took the victory 6.6 seconds ahead of Hamilton to take the lead in the drivers’ standings. This was a very tactical race, and Vettel made the correct calls…. Continue Reading »

Bottas takes pole ahead of Hamilton for Bahrain GP

Valtteri Bottas recorded his first-ever pole position in Formula One, winning a thrilling bout with his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton for the right to lead the starters at the 2017 Bahrain Grand Prix. This makes for the team’s first front-row lockout this season. Bottas became just the fifth Finn to win a pole position in F1. The other four? Keke Rosberg, Mika Hakkinen, Kimi Raikkonen, and Heiki Kovalainen. That is certainly some good company. When Bottas jumped Hamilton for the Q3 lead, Hamilton subsequently could not improve upon his own time after losing some time in the first sector of the track. He has to settle for P2, but he… Continue Reading »

Hamilton dominates Chinese GP

Lewis Hamilton capped off a fairly dominant race weekend by winning the 2017 Chinese GP, ahead of the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel, in a race that could have gone either way were it not for certain events. The win puts Hamilton with Vettel in a tie for the drivers championship points lead. Mercedes, meanwhile, takes the lead in the team standings over Ferrari. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen stole the show with an incredible drive, going from P16 all the way to seventh right in the first lap. He had to duel with his teammate Daniel Ricciardo near the end, but eventually took the last spot on the podium. Hamilton led… Continue Reading »

Chinese Grand Prix qualifying: Hamilton takes pole; Bottas in third

Lewis Hamilton made the most of the dry track at the Chinese Grand Prix on Saturday, taking pole position to fend off Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. Valtteri Bottas took the other Mercedes car to P3. It sure looks like Hamilton and Vettel will be the duel to watch this season, with Vettel taking first blood when he won the opener at Australia a couple of weeks ago. With his sixth straight pole position, Hamilton is closing in fast on the all-time leaders. His 63 career poles is just 2 behind Ayrton Senna for second place. Meanwhile, he needs only 6 more to surpass Michael Schumacher for the all-time best mark. On… Continue Reading »

Hamilton to open 2017 F1 season in pole position

Lewis Hamilton will be in pole position to kick off the 2017 F1 season. The Mercedes driver won a tight qualifying which saw Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel take P2 (with a time of 1:22.456) and new Silver Arrows driver Valtteri Bottas claim P3 (1:22.481). Hamilton clocked 1:22.188, a mere 0.268 ahead of Vettel, while Bottas was just a shade behind P2 with a 0.025 difference between himself and the Ferrari. The pole position is the 62nd of Hamilton’s career. He is in third on the all-time list, and he’s closing in fast on Ayrton Senna with 65. Michael Schumacher is at the top of that list with 68. It’s not outside… Continue Reading »
