Mercedes’ Rosberg wins the 2015 Austrian Grand Prix; Hamilton second as team completes another 1-2 finish

Nico Rosberg took the lead heading into turn 1 and managed to keep Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton in his rear-view mirror the rest of the way, winning the 2015 Austrian Grand Prix and closing the gap between himself and Hamilton in the drivers’ championship standings. Rosberg finished the race in 1:30:16.9, a comfortable 8.8 seconds ahead of his teammate. With the win, Rosberg is again within 10 points of Hamilton in the championship race, 159 points to 169. Sebastian Vettel, who finished fourth this race, is a distant third with 120 points. Williams’ Felipe Massa had his first podium finish of the season to round out the top three in a race that… Continue Reading »

Hamilton leads another Mercedes front-row lockout in Austrian Grand Prix qualifying

Lewis Hamilton was at the head of yet another Mercedes AMG Petronas front-row lockout at the qualifying session for the 2015 Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg. Hamilton notched his 45th career pole position, including his seventh of this current season. In addition, this makes it 19 straight pole positions for Mercedes, dating back to last season’s Austrian GP. This also happens to be the sixth Mercedes front-row qualifying effort this season thanks to Nico Rosberg’s sixth front-row qualification. Both Mercedes drivers completed two runs each in all three qualifying runs, though they each spun when they were still trying to improve upon their Q3 times. Still, it didn’t matter as Hamilton’s 1:08.455 was enough… Continue Reading »

F1: Rosberg upsets Hamilton to win 2015 Monaco GP

Nico Rosberg claimed his third-straight Monaco Grand Prix victory, after a questionable decision to pit Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton’s car when the safety car went out caused the latter to re-enter the race in third, putting the Briton’s dominating weekend to waste. This marks the second consecutive race win for Rosberg, while the team is now six out of six when it comes to getting both drivers to finish on the podium. Hamilton had once again built up a considerable gap from out in front, at least for a good first 64 laps until Max Verstappen’s accident prompted the safety car to come out. It was then that the decision was… Continue Reading »

New Contract of Lewis Hamilton Could Be Worth £120 Million

Lewis Hamilton may be on his way to finally sealing a new contract with his team. The Daily Mail claimed it might be what the Mercedes-AMG Petronas driver and reigning World Champion in Formula One meant when he said, “I will have some news for you in Monaco,” after last Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix. If the story is true, then it could signal the end of Hamilton’s excruciating contract negotiations, which he stated earlier as “A pain in the back side.” It should be noted that the champ was the one personally overseeing his contract negotiations after he ended his association with Simon Fuller’s XIX Entertainment. Hamilton was the one… Continue Reading »

F1: Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton wins Bahrain Grand Prix; Rosberg takes third place

Lewis Hamilton continues to dominate the 2015 Formula One season, taking his third race win in the first four races after cruising to victory at the 2015 Bahrain Grand Prix. Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg was on pace to give the team a one-two finish, but lost P2 with one lap to go after a mistake that led to Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen taking second place. Raikkonen drove with great pace late in the race. In lap 56, Rosberg ran wide and Raikkonen took advantage to take P2 for another great finish by the Ferrari team. By the time the Ferrari driver reached the chequered flag, he was only some 3.3 seconds behind Hamilton. “The Ferraris… Continue Reading »

At the qualifying session for the 2015 Bahrain Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton was able to achieve another pole position while fending off the Ferrari drivers as well as his own Mercedes teammate. Hamilton’s teammate Nico Rosberg (Q3 1:33.129) will start in the second row at P3 ahead of Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen (1:33.227). The third row is all Williams, with Valtteri Bottas in P5 and Felipe Massa in P6. Rosberg says he knew what he did wrong, which was thinking too far ahead on to the race by trying to save his tyres. “I took it easy in… Continue Reading »

Mercedes lessons at the 2015 Chinese Grand Prix

The Chinese Grand Prix continues to be kind to Lewis Hamilton, as the Mercedes driver took the victory in this year’s race ahead of teammate Nico Rosberg. Here are some points that were evident with the race and the outcome. Lewis Hamilton cruised but still showed speed where it counted Hamilton recorded a Grand Chelem (or Grand Slam) at the 2015 Chinese Grand Prix, which means he took pole position in qualifying, recorded the race’s fastest lap, and won while leading from the opening lap up until the end of race. This was Hamilton’s second such feat, after tallying one at last year’s Malaysian Grand Prix. While Ferrari had great pace, they couldn’t offset… Continue Reading »
