Bottas 2nd while Hamilton struggles in Azerbaijan GP

The Azerbaijan GP was certainly a very wild and chaotic race. Valtteri Bottas drove his Mercedes to second place right at the last possible moment heading into the chequered flag, ahead of Lance Stroll’s Williams car and behind the race winner, Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo. Bottas went behind Stroll’s slipstream at the final straight and overtook just ahead of the chequered flag. It was a fitting finish to the very wild race which saw yellow flags, a red flag, and a lot of contact between cars. It was surely disappointing to lose second place for Stroll, but Williams can’t be that sad about achieving the team’s first podium this season…. Continue Reading »

Monaco GP qualifying: Mercedes struggles

Lewis Hamilton’s struggles continued from practice to qualifying, limping to P14 on the grid at the Monaco GP. “I was devastated after the session,” said Hamilton. He said he couldn’t even get out of his car. At one point, he almost crashed. He also struggled consistently with his car’s tyre set up. So he could only watch as a crash dashed what would be his final attempt to get into P3. There, the Ferrari drivers would end up on top after a tightly fought session. Kimi Raikkonen took pole position, followed by Sebastian Vettel. Not all was lost for Mercedes, though, as Valtteri Bottas was able to come in third… Continue Reading »

Bahrain GP: Hamilton, Bottas finish in podium but Vettel secures win

The 2017 Bahrain GP was surely fruitful for Mercedes. The team did, after all, see Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas finish in second and third place, respectively. However, it’s disappointing for the team to see Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari take home the race victory. Bottas started from pole and managed to hold off Vettel at the start, but eventually finished 20 seconds out of the top spot. Hamilton made a play for it late in the game but could not catch Vettel, who took the victory 6.6 seconds ahead of Hamilton to take the lead in the drivers’ standings. This was a very tactical race, and Vettel made the correct calls…. Continue Reading »
