Team Orders for Mercedes Coming Soon

There are reports right now saying that Mercedes AMG Petronas is planning to implement team orders in the following races this season. Of course, this matter did not sit well with a lot of Formula One fans. In the beginning of August, Grandprix.com posted an article about an interview with Dr. Dieter Zetsche, wherein the Daimler boss clarified that there would be no team orders for their F1 drivers, unless they are facing an emergency situation. He did not explain though what they consider to be an “emergency situation.” However, he said he expects his drivers to avoid impeding each other with varying strategies. For instance, when going for two… Continue Reading »

Mercedes third and fourth at Hungarian Grand Prix

Mercedes AMG Petronas was able to secure another podium at the very least at the Hungarian Grand Prix, with Lewis Hamilton finishing in third place. Nico Rosberg, meanwhile, finished fourth as Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo won his second GP of the season and maintained his status as the only other driver apart from Mercedes drivers to win a race in 2014. Adding a bit of drama to the race was a particular moment near the end of the race in which the team asked Hamilton to let his teammate pass–and understandably so. Hamilton drove a hell of a race, starting from the pit lane and working his way up the field…. Continue Reading »

Rosberg wins pole position in German GP as Hamilton ends stint in Q1

It was a bittersweet qualifying session for the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team at its home race, the German Grand Prix. Nico Rosberg was able to secure yet another pole position — his fifth of the season, and the team’s ninth overall out of ten races so far — while Lewis Hamilton had a brake disc failure during Q1, forcing him to end his session right there as the failure sent him spinning into a wall in Hockenheim. Hamilton’s time was good enough for Q2, but since he was not able to get a run in, he only qualifies at P16 on the grid. With Sauber’s Esteban Gutiérrez (P14 down to P17) getting docked three… Continue Reading »

Will the FRIC Ban Affect the Momentum of Mercedes

Last Tuesday, sources within the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) leaked the letter that was sent to all the Formula One teams concerning the ban on the use of Front and Rear Interconnected Suspension or FRIC. According to the letter, the installation of the said system is in violation of Article 3.15 of F1’s technical regulations. This particular provision declares the use of moveable aerodynamic devices, other than the driver adjustable bodywork, as illegal. In the letter penned by Charlie Whitting, the race director of FIA, anyone caught to be in violation of the FRIC ban would risk exclusion in the race results. Thus, strict compliance is required from every team. The only… Continue Reading »

Hugo Boss Joins Mercedes Bandwagon in Formula One

McLaren and Hugo Boss have been in partnership for around 33 years in Formula One. However, a recent report revealed that the luxury fashion brand is about to end its alliance with the eight-time Constructors’ Champion in favor of Mercedes AMG Petronas, which is the dominant team in F1 this year. According to NBC’s MotorSportsTalk blog, Hugo Boss will no longer extend its partnership with McLaren up to 2015. This coincides with the F1 team’s decision to severe its engine deal with Mercedes in favor of Honda. While Hugo Boss is only a minor sponsor of McLaren, the loss would surely hurt the team as it has been its a long-time partner…. Continue Reading »
