To keep ahead of the competition, Daimler has just announced the expansion of its car2go car sharing program in Amsterdam this week. The car2go car sharing program had been tried over and over in both Ulm and Texas, thus ensuring officials in Daimler of its huge potential in other European countries. On day 39 of the circumnavigation, the F-CELL World Drive embarked on the tenth leg, which leads north through the coastal state of California. The route takes the participants through San Francisco as well as to the Californian capital Sacramento. During this leg, the vehicles cover a total of 950 kilometers. By staging local activities, like in San Francisco and Sacramento, Mercedes-Benz furthermore offers interested parties the possibility to gather information about the potential of fuel cell technology and the B-Class F-CELL. Moreover, a visit at Tesla Motors is part of this tenth leg.
There had already been reports that there will be an actual smart Roadster likely headed for Geneva. Now, the Daimler company has released a complete gallery of images showing the highly-anticipated electric vehicle concept—the smart Forspeed—pegged to take center stage at the upcoming 2011 Geneva Motor Show this March. In another first, Mercedes has delivered to a Spanish custormer 5 Vito E-Cell vans. With Basque Prime Minister López, Mercedes-Benz Vans Production Head, Dr Heinrich Weiss and Jose Luis Lopez-Schummer Trevino, President of Mercedes-Benz Spain, the presentation of the E-Cell Vito Vans were made to Augustine Markaide, President of the supermarket chain Eroski. After 100 of these vans were successfully used in Berlin and Stuttgart, the Vito E-Cell will prove its suitability for everyday applications in Spain. If it were possible to time travel an automobile user from the 50s or 60s to the upcoming terminal to be built in Tennessee, he would be bewildered by the fact that there were no gas pumps to fill up his car.
