Updated E-Class Models Feature New Engines With Direct Injection

05 mercedese 597x396 Updated E Class Models Feature New Engines With Direct Injection

Mercedes is announcing new powerplants in 2012 for its E-Class models, and the top-of-the-line mill gives AMG-like performance to Mercedes’ mid-range offerings. Starting with the E350, the German automaker will provide a 3500cc direct-injection V6, which is currently found in the C350 sedan and the SLK350 roadster. This powerplant has an output of 302 horsepower with a corresponding 273 pound-feet of torque. As part of its mandate to meet more stringent fuel economy and emissions standards, a 7-speed automatic transmission is expected to complete the drivetrain.

If a 300-horsepower car isn’t enough, customers can order the E-Class with a direct-injection V8 biturbo, displacing 4.6 liters and producing a little over 400 horsepower with 440 pounds-feet of torque. This is more than enough horsepower for a daily driver and should provide some momentary distractions at stoplight grands prix on the way to work.

MEC Design Preps E 350 CDI for Summer

MEC Design, a Merc tuner out of Berlin, has just tuned a Mercedes-Benz E 350 CDI model to get it ready for a wild romp this summer. A tweaked exhaust system, lowering springs and new tuner-specific wheels make up just the tip of the iceberg for this upcoming release.

Coinciding with the launch of the tuner’s specially designed mecxtremeIII one-piece wheel Spring collection, MEC has fitted these new wheels onto the E 350 CDI. Prospective buyers can opt for any of 8 available finishes for the wheels, including Satin White, Satin Black and Full Matte Black. Additionally, buyers can choose whether or not to go with a stainless steel outer lip for the wheels.

Aside from the hot wheels, MEC got the E 350 CDI closer to the action via some lowering springs rated at 35mm. Additionally, it gets the MEC Design 4 Pipes Rear Muffler with Sound. The tuner could also do some body work on the rear axle.

The 4-pipe exhaust setup is also compatible with the tuner’s rear diffuser. Should you choose to get one, the Plug and Play design will let you get right into the thick of things in no time. The diffuser will arrive in around 4 to 5 weeks, and those interested can choose between a primed version and a Carbon version.

Check out the gallery after a bit of information about the tuner.

Revozport Introduces E-Class Body Kit

Asian tuner entrant Revozport has set its sights on the E-Class Mercedes with a body modification kit made from carbon fiber. This kit was designed for the W207 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet. According to the company, “The aggressive but yet subtle design is to bring out the full character of the E Coupe and giving its owners the unique look but not looking like a hooligan”.

Using the Rezonance name, the kit includes a front bumper with LED daytime running lights, a splitter with two settings, a carbon kevlar hood, side skirts, a trunk spoiler, roof spoiler and a rear diffuser panel with LED reverse and fog lights copied from the E-Class’ big brother, the SLS AMG. Revozport claims that the hood gives an 8 kilogram reduction in weight.

Revozport aims to have the kit released by the first week of March and distributed worldwide within the month. It must be said that the pictures released by the company show a nice integration of the kit with the W207 E-Class and that they do not look like cheap ripoffs. Additionally, Revozport also produces carbon fiber front grilles, mirror covers, chrome insert covers for the trunk and other accessories for other vehicles.

Binz Xtend E-Class Tourer Now In Production

Announced in December 2010 at the Essen Motor Show, European tuner Binz has started production of its Binz Xtend E-Class conversion. This conversion extends the E-Class Estate to an extra long 5.7-meter length.

Binz adds this length between the rear doors and axle to effect the conversion. The extension adds 795 mm to the length of the Mercedes-Benz station wagon. By adding the extension in this area, Binz has retained the seating capacity and legroom of the original E-Class Estate. The cargo volume, however, now transports 2620 liters of whatever cargo you care to load. Compare the wheelbase of 3.7 meters against the vehicle’s length of 5.7 meters and you can see how long this E-Class Estate has become with Binz’s conversion process. Vehicle weight, empty, is now 2 tons. The standard wheel/tire combination is still used which are 245 mm width tires on 17” rims.

Since Binz only modifies the body at this point, the same engine choices remain for this extended E-Class, namely an E250CDI with 204 HP, an E350 producing 292 horsepower or an E500 packing 388 hp. All variants are speed-limited it to the standard E-Class limits, whatever the engine choice may be.
