[DTM] Lausitzring Preview for Mercedes-Benz Team

It’s round 4 of the 2013 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, and the Mercedes-Benz team is headed to EuroSpeedway Lausitz hoping that they’ll fare better after a disaster of a race at the Red Bull Ring last time out. Christian Vietoris, a junior team member who’s had the best season so far among Mercedes-Benz drivers, said that the 3,478-meter track is one of his favorites. He said starting grid position will again play a big role, as the team has underperformed in qualifying so far. Gary Paffett shared Vietoris’ sentiments in that the cars generally provide good race pace. “If we can just qualify for the first couple of rows, we can… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz Outs 2013 DTM Driver Lineup

After a rather disappointing finish to last year’s Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season, the Mercedes-Benz team is eager to get back on track for 2013, starting with the announcement for the driver lineups for this season. Mercedes-Benz will field a crop of six DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupe units this season, down a couple from last year’s eight C-Coupes across 4 sub-units. The six drivers are Gary Paffett, Daniel Juncadella, Roberto Merhi, Ralf Schumacher, Christian Vietoris, and Robert Wickens. Paffett was the frontrunner for much of the 2012 season, but Bruno Spengler managed to come from behind to take the title at the final race at Hockenheim. Paffett ended up conceding the… Continue Reading »

Paffett 2nd at Hockenheim, Fails to Clinch DTM Title

For all intents and purposes, the 2012 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season was Gary Paffett’s to lose. He had been leading all the way since the first race and was in good position to win it all at the final race despite watching Bruno Spengler chip away at his lead following dismal performances after the halftime break of the season. Well, Spengler was able to snatch the win—and the 2012 DTM driver’s championship as well—at Hockenheimring. DTM follows the FIA world championships points system, which awards 25 points to the winner and 18 points to the runner-up, then 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, and 2 points to the rest of… Continue Reading »
