Daimler Trucks Growing its Business in Asia and Africa Through MFTBC and DICV

In order to get stronger results from its commercial vehicles division, Daimler has been working hard to establish itself in new growth markets, particularly in Asia and Africa. Key here is Daimler Trucks’ “Asia Business Model” that allows it to gain traction through ‘stronger bundling and optimization’ of operations within the region. Important facilities within the region are major contributors to the division’s growth. Among these facilities are the Kawasaki, Japan-based Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC), as well as the Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) facility in Chennai, India. At the moment, Daimler Trucks is still behind its main rivals Volvo and Scania from a profit standpoint. It posted a 5.5-percent profit margin in 2012, compared to Volvo’s 5.8 percent and Scania’s 14 percent. Before taking over the trucks division on April 1, Bernhard was the head of production and purchasing at Mercedes-Benz Cars. Daimler Trucks… Continue Reading »

Revenues of Daimler Trucks Increased In 2012

The rollercoaster ride in the truck market last year had little effect on the sales and revenue of Daimler Trucks as it posted good earnings in 2012. The market initially saw strong sales in the first half of 2012 before it dipped due to the sovereign debt problem in Europe and the reduced demand in North America. Reconstruction activities in Japan may have propped up the market at the start, but it gradually tapered off in the second half of 2012. Despite the obstacles, Daimler Trucks was able to increase revenues by 9 percent, particularly in the Asian and North American region. Although Western European sales declined in Western Europe… Continue Reading »
