Mercedes-Benz and Smart Start the Year with High Sales

Daimler AG, through its Mercedes-Benz and Smart brands, started 2015 on a high note. The group displayed impressive sales this January compared to the same month of the previous year. According to a Wall Street Journal report, the two brands showed a double-digit increase in January sales on a year-on-year comparison. The sales of the Mercedes-Benz marque grew by 15 percent compared to its performance in the same month of last year. The company attributed the strong figures to the continued growth of demand primarily in the Chinese region. It noted that U.S., Europe and Russia also showed a significant spike in the record books. Humvee Maker Will Now Handle R-Class Production

Based on several news sources, Mercedes-Benz recently turned to AM General to handle the production of the R-Class. AM General is popular for making the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), or the Hummer. To be honest, I thought the R-Class was already history, so I was quite surprised about the recent development centering on the range. My first reaction when I saw the headlines was, “Really, the R-Class is still around?” It should be noted that the R-Class wasn’t quite as popular as the other series of the three-pointed star brand. When it was launched in 2005, its sales figures were way below expectations. In its best year, only… Continue Reading »

Classic Mercedes-Benz E-Class Limousine Seen in China

Long before the Mercedes S600 Pullman was the W124 Mercedes-Benz E-Class limousine. A couple of weeks ago, the car was spotted traversing the airport expressway in Guangzhou, located in the Guangdong Province of China. Unlike the soon-to-be-released S-Class stretched limo with only four doors, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class limousine had six doors. The earlier limo of the three-pointed star brand was also shorter than the upcoming one with just a 5,540 mm overall length and a wheelbase measurement of 3,600 mm. Both cars have three rows of seats though. The classic car in the picture is a 260E. It is equipped with a 2.6-liter six-in-line with an output of measly 170 hp. It… Continue Reading »
